No, it becomes a film more about survival and how to love life and those in it after they leave the market. The camping scenes, the dad's turning, it's meant to explore how family bonds build and break apart because of the apocalypse.

When they get to the stronghold, the focus shifts from family to resistance and rebuilding. You see these men staking out a community that can actually be stable and secure, as opposed to the nomad existence the group was living which would get them killed sooner or later. But it introduces the practical reality of human needs: sex and reproduction. Things might have gone smoothly if the group cooperated, but they didn't, so what happened happened.

Yeah, it becomes less about zombies and more of a psychological thriller. But this was the early days of non-Romero-type zombie films. The ""Humans are the real monsters" angle hadn't been really touched upon. I think the film did good having this subplot because the conflict you have between zombies and humans can never produce the same kind of story as the conflict between humans, as The Walking Dead shows with such villains as The Governor.

Alright. I get all the messaging and shit about humans being the baddies and le evil soldiers who can't control their dicks, but when I sit down to see a zombie movie, I sit down to see a zombie movie. Switching the threat from zombies to regular dudes midway through felt like false advertising to say the least.
Besides, the first half had a much better atmosphere, the photography was astounding in cementing that feeling of isolation and danger that gets lost the moment the soldiers come up. Hell, I'd much preferred it if they just wandered aimlessly in london until they all got eaten, like in the Grey with Neeson, instead of having jake or whatever his name was suddenly go completely anime tier OP and make up a master keikaku to have a scooby doo fight in the mansion with the soldiers getting killed off in hilariously dumb and cruel ways for commiting the crime of wanting pussy or just not wanting to speak up against their friends who wanted pussy.

There's the tunnel scene, which may be an example of what you're talking about, though---when they're trying to drive through without alerting zombies.

Well if you took the father and daughter and the car out, and just had the black chick, sure. That could have been an excellent film too---who knows, maybe even better. But this line of reasoning calls into question what 28 Days Later before they leave the market was about or should have been about in the first place.

The crux of his plan though was causing confusion in the house and setting their infected comrade free to catch them by surprise.
Yeah, his wit and vigor come out of nowhere in the film, but it's not superhuman or too extraordinary.
