ITT: We rank the works of our favorite directors (and shit on other people's opinions)

I'll start with David Lynch:

Mulholland Dr.
The Elephant Man
Blue Velvet
Eraserhead
INLAND EMPIRE
The Straight Story
Lost Highway
Wild At Heart
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me

(I don't think I'm ever going to bother watching Dune)
(Only ranking Lynch's films)

God your list is so bad i don't even know where to start.

>Shame
>Hunger
>12 Years a Slave

I take that as praise from considering one of your favorite directors is Steve McQueen

One of my favourite directors i guess.
>Mirror

>Nostalghia

Coen Brothers

>The Big Lebowski
>No Country for Old Men
>A Serious Man
>Burn After Reading
>Inside Llewyn Davis
>Barton Fink
>O Brother
>Raising Arizona
>Fargo
>Buster Scruggs
>Hail Cesar

This was a lot hard than I thought. They do comedy and drama so well it feels wrong to put one above the other.

Watch Blood Simple, it's one of their best

>Judging my favorite director using your subjective standards and ignoring the circumstances that made him my favorite director, while at the same time having lynch as your favorite just like tv/ told you to do.
You aren't really that interesting, you have no individuality and your list is objectively shit.

How can Lynch be your favorite director when you have such a terrible opinion of his work?

Bennett Miller:

>Capote
>Moneyball
>
>
>
>
>
>Foxcatcher

great list i think raising arizona is super overated by too many

The Big Lebowski is overrated garbage, fight me

>You aren't really that interesting for sharing your film opinions
Not him but neither are you

>Not him but neither are you
Not any of them, but neither are you

>Not any of them, but neither are you
I agree and neither are you

Kubrick:

>A Clockwork Orange
>The Killing

>true grit
>burn after reading
>the man who wasn't there
>blood simple
>hail caesar
>raising arizona
>o brother
>the ladykillers
>the hudsucker proxy
>intolerable cruelty

The Shining is above all of those.

The Shining doesn't deserve to be that low. It's certainly better than FMJ. Nice digits

Nice digits

The Shining felt pretty shallow even compared to the book, and the way they killed the black guy felt pretty cheap and a waste of time

good list and checked

>the prestige
>memento
>batman begins
>dunkirk

>the dark knight

I hold them on a similar level

Twin Peaks The Return
Inland Empire
Muholland Drive
Blue Velvet
TPFWWM
Eraserhead
Elephant Man
Lost Highway
Wild at heart
A straight story
Dune

Original Twin Peaks?

Tough because that would lump season one and two together so I would say maybe above lost highway.

Luis Bunuel:
>Los Olvidados
>Viridiana
>That Obscure Object Called Desire
>Belle de Jour
>The Phantom of Liberty
>L'Age D'or
>Un Chien Andalou

>The House That Jack Built
>Dancer in the Dark
>Antichrist
>Melancholia
>Breaking the Waves
>Dogville
>Nymphomaniac

Nymphomaniac is the only von Trier film that I've seen, I'm relieved that it's seen to be his worst; just how bad is it compared to his other films?

To me that and manderlay are his worst. His other works are great. His humor jet black and his technical skills are top notch. A lot of people hated the house that jack built because they thought the humor was unintentional. The overly explanation of its themes serve as both a self parody and a criticism of his critics. It’s done much better than Nymphomanic whose humor isn’t even funny enough to justify its length.

Kurosawa, Akira-san

The Idiot
Ran
Ikiru
Hidden Fortress
Seven Samurai
Throne of Blood
Rashomon
Dodes'ka-den
High and Low
Drunken Angel
Red Beard
Yojimbo
Kagemusha
The Bad Sleep Well
Sanjuro
Stray Dogs
Scandal
I live in fear
Dersou Uzala
Akira Kurosawas Dreams
The Quiet Duel

Lumet is a great director. Sadly most people forget him when naming the best directors of all time

Sorcerer
The Exorcist
To live and die in LA
The French Connection
Killer Joe
Rampage
Cruising

The rest are shit

>Whiplash
>La La Land
>First Man

have you read The Idiot?

Kogonada

>Columbus 10/10

Yes I did and also liked it.
I really enjoyed that Kurosawa put the story into (back then) modern day Japan. Also Mifune fucking nailed the Rogoshin character

Holy shit this list is retardedly bad. user, you're in the wrong board.

he's your favourite directors but you haven't seen all his movies?

I actually like Nymphomaniac, it's his worst film imo but it's so funny. The House That Jack Built has the same structure but improved.
>Dogville
>The House That Jack Built
>Breaking the Waves
>Antichrist
>Manderlay
>Nymphomaniac

The Master
There Will Be Blood
Inherent Vice
Boogie Nights
Punch Drunk Love
Phantom Thread
Magnolia

Have yet to see Hard Eight.

Michael Haneke

>Funny Games
>Code Unknown
>The White Ribbon
>Amour
>Caché
>Benny's Video
>71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance
>The Seventh Continent
>Happy End
>The Piano Teacher
>Lemmings

Good list, but IE is his worst and TSS should be higher
Ivan's Childhood is not better than Solaris
Good list
Good list
Memento >
Terrible
Alright
THTJB? Are you kidding me? I love this film, but come on man. Also where the fuck is Europa, Medea and The Idiots?

Attached: 1550230707982.png (1007x561, 389K)

There Will Be Blood
The Master
Inherent Vice
Phantom Thread
Magnolia
Punch Drunk Love
Boogie Nights
Hard Eight
>Ivan's Childhood is not better than Solaris
It is.

Happy End is not better than The Piano Teacher and Funny Games is in no way the best Haneke film.

Low quality bait.

With a list like that I wouldn’t judge anyone else's

jurassic park
jaws
indie 3
indie 1
duel
encounters of the third kind
Schindler
ET
saving private ryan
Hook

have you not seen the temple of doom?

i forgot everything about it, but 2 indies are enough

low quality bait

Bergman Top 10:
>Winter Light
>Fanny and Alexander
>Wild Strawberries
>Persona
>The Seventh Seal
>Hour of the Wolf
>Sawdust and Tinsel
>Through a Glass Darkly
>Silence
>Smiles of a Summer Night

Phantom Thread and Magnolia are way too low

>There Will Be Blood
>The Master
>Magnolia
>Phantom Thread
>Inherent Vice
>Boogie Nights
>Punch Drunk Love

American Sniper is belongs towards the bottom with the other two films in his american hero trilogy.

You keep biting though

What's so good about Phantom Thread?
