It's appropriate if the film is especially good. By your logic, why laugh at a joke in the film if the filmmaker aren't right there? Why watch it at all?

Do you clap only when you see everybody else do it, or would you clap on your own?

Only on my own. I am not a clap-liar.

I thought this was just a meme until those cams of Infinity War came out, Americans are weird

Laughter isn't voluntary like clapping

>Laughter isn't voluntary like clapping
Clapping is involuntary too if it's truly called for, Sat'n.

>giving an inanimate object a 30 second standing ovation is an involuntary action.

Do Americans really do this?

we did it in school ironically to see who would start clapping just because we were

Yes

Has Mike ever clapped in a theater without the creators of the film present?

even without a license to

Clapping!??????? I HATE CLAPPING!!!!!! DONT YOU EVEN THINK ABOUT CLAPPING!!!!!!

A better comparison would be booing. No one's going to hear that either, but people do it. Movies are social events, it only gets silly if you sit and over-analyze it too much. Although sitting and watching a movie yourself and clapping is pretty weird.

Your arms move on their own and start clapping?

It's like punching, it'll just happen if you push my buttons in the right order.

dunno about other parts of the country but this definitely happens in Texas. the last time I went to the cinema was Avengers: Endgame and there was clapping at the end and also during one or two parts of the actual country

Nobody boos movies right? Like whats the fuckn point? If its shit get up and leave

Thats fuckn hilarious. I cant believe americans involuntarily clap

Only time I see people clapping at the movies is black people

Spontaneous outbreaks of joy haven't been outlawed here yet.

reminder that audiences have always been annoying in movie theaters

yeah, it's pretty common
I saw Transformers 2 in theaters when I was 18 and the entire theater erupted in applause like I've never heard

litty crowd

canadians do it too

I always assumed it was a joke until I made the mistake of going to see Endgame. The entire theater was clapping, whooping, and screaming for three hours, and it was miserable.

Did it in church once after some bitch made some charity announcement at the end and everyone started clapping. Mommy was not happy.

>whooping, and screaming
Do you live in an... urban area?

I'm Norwegian and this happened after watching the fellowship of ring in the kino. Not just burgers.

I'm 30 and a frequent movie goer in Toronto. Never in my life have I heard other Canadians clapping in a theater. They do however, clap at hockey games on tv alone in their living room.

That's the strangest part - I live in a town of like 10,000 people, 99% of whom are white. Even still, that theater was pure pandemonium.

People did this when I saw Avatar in 3D.
