To be honest I haven't kept up with 40k, since like 2013 or so, I don't know. I just loved that codex release. At the time there wasn't any books from an alien perspective besides fire warrior because the black library didn't think authors could write non humans.
I think Eisenhorn is a good intro, it doesn't expect you to know what the a termagaunt is. It's just the tip of 40k, it feels more like a traditional scifi until you get deeper in.
