The Florida Project

>Gave it a go for some Willem Dafoe kino to prepare for Lighthouse
>Had to bail on this 15 minutes in. Just couldn't get into a movie about some tattooed skank drug addict and her bratty kids.

What went wrong?

>dropping a movie in 15 minutes
what is wrong with you? drop your shitty marvel formatted brain and realize that many movies take their time to get going

You sound retarded.

Not to sound like a fag but I enjoyed it and found it pretty touching in a weird way. I don't blame you though.

The movie is pretty good. It won't change your life or anything.
I guess "what went wrong?" is that you had a spastic knee jerk reaction 15 minutes in and jumped on reddit to post about it.

that's fair. I'll check it out again.

You aren't a fag for gettoing immersed and involved with a movie user. OP is a fag for not even trying to understand the main character.

sometimes you can grasp the vibe of a movie relatively quickly. if you find it straight up unpleasant, you're pretty safe in assuming you won't enjoy the rest of it.

I had OP's exact experience with Requiem For A Dream. I was utterly repulsed by the characters and didn't want to look at them any longer. This wasn't cool, fun, interesting junkies like in Trainspotting. This was what junkies actually are like.

OP could be wrong. I haven't seen The Florida Project, mainly because I was concerned about what he complains about. I'm keeping an eye on this thread because I'm sorta curious about it.

also considering that Sandy Kane is in the movie, it probably is the bummer realistic version of trash, not some heightened version that is entertaining to watch.

Sean Baker is based and made Greg the Bunny so I'm happy he gets so much hype now

>dude what if we put Willem Dafoe in this bedazzled home movie about literal trash people?!
movie is fucking garbage and I should've bailed the second A24 came on screen

i just didn't get the point. it was like boyhood but it only took 12 weeks to make.

Great movie except the ending. As a central Florida bro this really did capture the trash element there. Only weird thing was how Willem Defoe harassed that old guy for no reason when he just wanted a soda.

I thought the same thing. Fuck those kids but then I realized it was just all of the hatred that I had in me that made me react that way. Overall it's a good story about how fucked up some people are living.

those are poorly made movies then. there is no reason for even one second of something not entertaining to exist in a movie. bookfags don't have this issue, they agree that every single word is important and needs to be good. musicfags know an entire song has to be good. why do moviefags think they're somehow superior for having seen something bad or boring?

why'd'cha not drinkin' yer soda

yeah but the whole movie is about white trash bullshit

Outrage culture.
you in fact did watch the whole movie. You want to talk about it, but sadly your brain has been formatted to to constantly be outrage and to engage in others outrage as well.
So you make a thread to get others outraged or "trolled".
Many such cases, SAD!

I'm up to my neck in hillbilly trash all day because of work. When I come home to watch a movie before knocking off I don't want to revisit the same breed of people I see all day long. Realistic or not. Sue me

unironically: people don't think it be like it is but it do

And yet you still want to talk about it for some reason. Are you a retard? If you don't like it move on with your life

Watching beautiful kids is not a crime.

>Wanting beautiful sodas is not a crime
ftfy

It unironically made me cry like a bitch. It's probably the best child acting I've ever seen. Seriously, I have no idea how they got such a good performance out of a child.

So, who was in the wrong here?

post the webm ...you know the one

South Florida bro. Watched this movie six times in a row once a night after I saw it the first time. Absolute Florida trash kino. Like watching an episode of Intervention. I've only been to Orlando once but have seen plenty of people like that down here. I know I'm biased but this movie was so fucking good. It was like a car accident, you could not look away. 8/10 very high replay value.

The ending was retarded and tacked on.

You missed out on one of the most kino Willem scenes of his life, he's fucking awesome in this movie give it another shot

>the scene where he patientily moves the birds
absolute beauty

>South Florida bro
Oh, so not Florida. That's cool.

if it's not interesting within 15 minutes, it won't ever be

same for games, books, porn, albums, etc

I thought this was Oscar bait but it ended up being one of my favorite kinos out of the entire decade

East Coast Florida > South Florida > Gulf Coast Florida > Central Florida > Panhandle

Bully was well crafted in the sense that I hated every single kid in it, and the "bully" was the least horrible person. I think there needs to be a better distinction between a movie that evokes a good reaction in the viewer, and a movie that accurately portrays bad things and evokes bad feelings in the viewer

Trainspotting, Fear & Loathing*, and Withnail & I are movies about self destructive substance abuse but have grace to them.

Bully and Requiem For A Dream are movies about shitty people that make you feel shitty. Requiem is pretty stylish in places but it's still a soul sucking experience.

*fear and loathing is kind of a douchey movie. once you're out of your teens you feel ashamed for thinking hunter s thompson was cool. I still think fear and loathing is enjoyable.

Your list is shit and South Florida is not part of Florida

I always thought it was shit and Thompson was a stupid fag

>You missed out on one of the most kino Willem scenes of his life
I'd say two or three. Willem was in top form in Florida Project; he should be proud.

Bully was good because it was a true story. The book was even more scummy. Although the director made the movie a porn film basically so I can see why people would not like it at all. But honestly that movie was really fucked up and again, like a bad car accident.

Crap list

If you turn off a movie featuring 6 year olds you don't belong on Yea Forums

valid opinion. even so it can be distinguished from the other group because it is intended to evoke enjoyment rather than dread or disgust. I have no use for art that solely makes my life worse. It can perform an educational role by illuminating what qualities I want out of my life, but in that sense it succeeds only as a single-use tool and not as art.

but they werent cute and funny. they were already roasty-fied

Shut up, Jancey was a cutie

what the fuck are you talking about

It's pointless to blog about a film you haven't finished watching. In fact, I would say it's an emotionally immature thing to do.
Starting a thread about discussing characters, scene, or plot in movies that you have finished watching is more productive.

Kino

>t. single mother of offspring with a different skin tone

Same but midul florida
Everything about this was was too close to home so I loved it but I'm biased

>except for the ending
Why?

It's been a while since I watched it but I remember liking it. I was pleasantly surprised that they weren't trying to portray the mom as some like misunderstood victim, but as a genuine fuck up. A pretty realistic fuck up at that. I think the only reason get mad at this realistic roastie portrayal is they projected themself into that scene with the disneyland passes or something. The scenes with only kids tended to feel slow though.

It didn't fit the depressing socio-economic nightmare the film had shown us for the past hour and forty minutes, plus it was filmed with an I-Phone. Fuck Disney.

I was under the impression that it was supposed to be like a fantasy or something. Still messes up the tone regardless.

Bully is fucking kino despite being made by a Hollywood Jew degenerate.

It was supposed to be a fantasy ending. The reality of the girls situation still played out but Sean Baker was giving us a bittersweet moment by showing us a dream like scenario where she could be happy again. The ending was still depressing because we know what we are being shown isn't what actually happened.

bump for kino thread
