Star Trek is fun to watch, but the sterile utopia it portrays as perfect pisses me off to no end.

Is there any media, film or otherwise, that portrays a world like the one in Star Trek but more realistically, i.e. everyone is a hedonistic nihilist, corruption is rampant, the universe is mostly cold and uninhabitable and the few alien races you come across as so alien they are practically impossible to communicate with let alone form any peaceful organisation with etc?

DS9

Oh? I'm mostly familiar with TNG, is DS9 a dystopia in disguise?

Its certainly the darkest, most realistic and morally grey Star Trek

Interesting. I guess my main problem would be it would still take place in Star Trek's disgusting world, but I'll keep it in mind. Thanks.

It takes place on the edge of federation territory so it's a lot rougher than the enterprise

>sterile utopia
Tasha Yar spend her childchood fending off rape gangs.

Got you covered.

>can someone recommend me star trek that isnt star trek
star trek is supposed to be hopeful
if you want to be some lame doomer faggot then watch the expanse or something

The assumption that your personally politics are aligned with an abstract concept of "hope" is concerning.

>I WANT GRIMDERP
Just end yourself, depressionfag

desu theres good evidence that any kind of life we would recognize would a whole lot like us, and the fact is we dont know how many ayys are out there because we really arent even looking

This
I mean, it doesn't take it nearly THAT far but DS9 pushes the utopia life of the Federation to the absolute brink where by the end of the series, Starfleet is almost unrecognisable from the TNG era. It was a huge experiment with the Trek franchise to see how war and terrorism can change democratic societies
But here is a more light hearted exchange kind of poking fun at the economic system of the Federation youtu.be/Wx5I7uEEEYo. There's moments like these all over the series.

Dune is pretty decent but idk if theres any decent film adaptation of the book, ik theres an lynch one that kinda sucks, but if i were you id just read the book

>dude what if star trek was edgy as FUCK
nice bait retard

Fully Automated Luxury Gay Space Communism: The Reality.

Enterprise season 3 definitely went in this direction as well. It was the closest Trek ever got to being military sci fi

Star Wars

There's a difference in being hopeful and being the very sterile, lifeless, Socialist hellscape we see in TNG where unironically Data came off as the most human and understandable. OP is a baiting faggot but the world of TNG honestly horrifies me right down to the ships being basically floating lounges staffed by robotic fuckers on tranquilizers or something captained by a effete bald Englishman. This is part of why I have always preferred TOS and DS9.

You're retarded

Yeah, did they ever mention what happen to the ship Archer had to raid?

>star trek should be a military series
disgusting

The Expanse is kind of like that, but the aliens in that are either long-dead cybernetic hiveminds or interdimensional horrors that don't really count as aliens.

no, the original
