What made Douge novel was that he was the first dude to rip off AVGN who A. had a modicum of talent and video editing skills, and B. did his schtick exclusively about nostalgic movies, rather than video games (or both, in the case of Spoony). When he first arrived on scene, YT had only been around for two years and to be fair to Douge, he was INCREDIBLY dedicated to making sure people saw his reviews. I'm sure I'm not the only one that remembers when YT would continuously nuke his channel so he would have to make socks that would only contain a single review (it's funny to think someone that was originally cheating YT's copyright algorithms as a nobody is now a verified user who pulls in millions of views). He did this for ages until his website eventually went up (I can even remember the first review he uploaded to the site that wasn't on YT, it was his "the Wizard" review, done curiously around the same time James did his Wizard review).
