I was wondering why we're not getting Ellroy adaptations besides LA confidential, especially now that TV shows are so popular, a HBO anthology series based on his novels would be such kino. And after checking it out, apparently HBO actually did get the rights for a lot of his stuff years ago but just buried them and will never do anything with them.
