Star trek

Most of the series have a different quality to them.
Start with TOS and if you don't like it move up chronologically.

Watch The Original Series and the six films made with the original cast.
Then you can stop, everything else is utter trash shitting on the Star Trek name.

I definitely appreciate it but it's not for everyone.

You can skip the pilot tbf. It's split into a two-parter later on anyway.

TNG is a complete waste of time. There's only a handful of episodes with interesting premises and they usually do nothing with it.

Star Trek: The Next Generation, its movies, and then start from Star Trek TOS onward.

Watching shows chronologically is unironiclly the most low iq think I have ever heard. There are things you are not supposed to know, prequels are prequels, you don’t watch them first, you ruin the drama.

If you watched TNG and liked it you can watch TOS
If you watched Voyager you wont have liked it as much and will be glad to have something else to watch so go watch TNG

TOS Season 2 and 3 are rough. A lot of mediocre and awful episodes. I'd say make a Top 10 episodes and that's it.
The TOS cartoon is great, but not required viewing. Watch Yesteryar episode at least.

TNG Season 1 is horrible, Season 2 is mediocre with 2 or 3 good episodes.
DS9 and Voyager are consistently good.
Ditch Enterprise.
Watch all 4 TNG movies.
Watch all 3 Kelvin (the new ones) movies.
Ditch STD.

Start with TOS if you want the authentic experience. Start with TNG if you want the modern TV experience (keep in mind first two seasons are mostly garbage).

Watch only the good episodes from TOS, then watch the movies.
Watch only the important and least bad episodes from TNG Season 1 and 2 then continuously watch every episode from S3 on (maybe skip the one or two awful romance episodes from each season).

I do agree that it tends more towards this near the end of the series, but for a more serialized series it has great concepts and it had pretty good writing for most of it. Interesting premises aren't everything, VOY was the opposite, with high concepts but bad writing and characters.

I've been working through everything by release, I'm currently nearing the end of Voyager so I guess that puts me about 3/4 of the way through everything. It's a massive undertaking but I think it's worth it. TOS is hard work in 2019 but it is still very good in places and it also opens up the movies which are a lot more accessible. If you start TOS and struggle with it just skip it and give the movies a try. Failing all else start at TNG. If you don't like TNG then Star Trek just isn't for you.
