It's more due to recent changes with comedy with the far left.
You can find most of their humor ends up based on being cute more than anything else. When doing topical humor they still use cuteness and end up with a lot of non-sequiturs rather than jokes that actually seem to go with the subject.
On the odd occasion they're trying to lampoon something they hate they end up looking weird since they want to keep depicting the thing as awful while still using cuteness for the humor.
