Saw Solo back when it first came out, and forgot about it. Just watched it again on Netflix, and while still not good or great, I'd say it's similar to Rogue One in how it's just mediocre but not bad.
Also, did they increase the brightness or something? When I first saw it I unironically thought there was something wrong with my eyes cause it was so dark, but this time around it looked pretty great. The Lady Proxima scene is the best example, since it was barely even visible in the theatre, but looked fine this time.
Anyway, I'd include this in my list of Best-Worst Star Wars films, albeit pretty low down, whereas I don't even consider 7 and 8 worthy of being on the scale.

Those problems were hilariously brief on my rewatch. It's funny how much of a big deal was made over these stupid little scenes that were presented as jokes (Qi'ra looking at L337 like she's crazy).
I couldn't enjoy it the first time cause of the terrible lighting, but I swear, they had to have changed it.

Solo had some good moments and ideas, but it's just not a very good movie. They also cast a dude who looks nothing like Harrison Ford so they can stop using his likeness when making Han Solo merch and thus stop paying him, and they don't have to pay the new guy at all because he took a shit contract.

Not only was he manipulated the entire movie, he was manipulated from as early as episode 2 (I won't count Clone Wars since that's like explaining episode 7 plotholes with obscure nuwars books).
The change wasn't sudden, Palpatine was his only friend. When it came down to it, he had two options:
>Save his wife, join his only true friend (Sheev), but have to betray the order that treats him like shit
or
>Kill his only true friend, let Padme die in the same way his mother did, and join the guy who was the biggest cunt to him (Mace Windu) and keep on going in the shitty order that he had grown to hate
So Palpatine tells him that he has to do some dirty work to save his wife, and at that point he was all in. Plus, he's fucking Darth Vader; the galaxy's biggest sociopath. I mean, why does everyone seem to project a good person's personality onto young Darth Vader? He's pure evil.

My unbiased opinion, being a fan of star wars as a kid before TPM until now, is that Solo is probably the worst movie in the franchise by a significant margin. Everything about it is wrong.

For me it dipped below mediocre into annoying. Maybe not bad, like you say but also kind of upsets me to watch. The guy they hired...I don't know, just not a good actor. And more so You take Han Solo who is presented as this worldly seen it all seasoned adventurer and smuggler and the movie you decide to make is one that squeezes almost all his mythos, all his history and background into one fucking adventure. And that's the way Star Wars movies are made they're this cheap bait for old fans and this cheap modernized ripoff for the new ones. And they fail miserably because of it. They parade writers with clean new Star Wars shirts out on social media and tell you what long time fans they are but every movie, EVERY SINGLE ONE, feels like it was written after a rushed all-nighter with Word open on one screen and Wookiepedia on the other.
Even by OP's comparison it feels like you're judging Solo in relation to all the other Star Wars movies that have come out recently and all I can interpret it as is, 'compared to the really foul and unforgivable shit they've shoved on us this isn't quite as smelly, and that makes it at least OK in my opinion'. And I think you're wrong or being to forgiving in calling it mediocre, It's a bad movie. The fact that they haven't fucked up as bad as they have in the past I don't feel warrants the claim that it is an improvement.
