bump
You’re wrong, and I hate you.
Overrated: Goodfellas
Underrated: Showgirls
You liked My Neighbour Totoro?
>The Godfather/Scarface/The Hangover
>American Splendor
>Scarface
that's a good one
Do people even rate the Hangover?
Over rated : wolf of wallstreet 2013
Underrated without a paddle
Yes, from a comedy standpoint. In my experience, most people that have brought it up in conversation swear that it's one of the funniest movies ever made when I didn't crack a smile once.
Explanation: a 14 year old could've wrote wolf of wallstreet and probably did it's a 2 hour jr high boys fantasy dream
And for without a paddle. .i don't know i just find it funny/comfy plus ive always been fascinated with the story of D.B. Cooper
>American Splendor
I don't even know why I chose this for underrated. In my completely uninformed opinion, I think this movie is generally well-liked just not often discussed. It's got a lot of great phrases that I've shamelessly ripped off and use in everyday life.
Overrated - The Shawshank Redemption
I don't know how you can argue with this even if you love it.
Underrated - Rocky V
People took Rocky's life spiralling downwards way too personally. It's as good as any of the sequels. It's the only one I don't like watching though because Sage being in it and their relationship is just too depressing.
>The Godfather
The Godfather is the only film i've ever watched where I completely agreed with every accolade it's ever received and wasn't let down in the slightest despite hearing nothing but how amazing it was before i actually watched it. It's a masterpeice.
>they huddle in a cave for warmth
>bump and grind starts playing
it wasn't a bad movie i used to watch it a lot, i think just because i like friendship adventure movies.
>Rocky V
For me, it has more to do with Rocky's kid being an ungrateful cunt most of the film.
>I don't know how you can argue with this even if you love it.
It's one of a few movies where I can stumble onto it by flipping channels and watch it until the end with genuine interest no matter how many times I've watched it.
>it has more to do with Rocky's kid being an ungrateful cunt most of the film
well he's a teenager.
shawkshank is a good film but i often see it ranked as the greatest film of all time and that's just silly. bob gunton aka the warden is actually probably my favourite movie villain of all time however, so i'll give you that.
There are no likeable people in Rocky 5. Also, Rocky somehow becomes stupid again.
Bah, fuck me, you're right. I was thinking of the guy playing his son in Rocky Balboa. I guess I don't remember V much at all.
>There are no likeable people in Rocky 5
...Rocky and Adrian?
>Also, Rocky somehow becomes stupid again.
he has brain damage after fighting Drago this is literally a plot point in the movie.
>it’s literally a reddit thread
>Citizen Kane
>the assassination of jesse james
inb4 jesse james is so popular on Yea Forums!
It doesn't get enough attention in general
never heard of that movie
how about you try and change that instead of whining?
Thanks for letting us know. Now, hurry up and get back there and do some more recon for us, ok?
I was sympathetic to him when I watched it again but yeah it's difficult to see him treat Rocky like that since he loves his kid so much but that's audience bias.
>you cast a big shadow
He comes good in the end.
>Most Overrated
I'm gonna go with "The Empire Strikes Back". Probably my favorite Star Wars film, but still not "Top 10 of All Time"-worthy, which is somewhere I regularly see it placed, in recent years. I chalk it up to the legendarily poor reception of "The Last Jedi".
>Most Underrated
I'm gonna' say "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone". Or "Sorceror's Stone" or what the fuck ever.
I often see people place HP1 in the bottom half of HP flicks. Which is a shame, because until HP4, I feel like none of the movies capture the magic of the setting as well. The book of HP3 managed it, but both versions of HP2 and the movie of 3 dropped the ball in making the world feel engaging and inviting—even in the darker moments, which HP1 and 4 did wonderfully with the Forbidden Forest/Third Floor and the Tri-Wizard Tournament.
Also, inb4 based
>"No!"
post.
>I feel like none of the movies capture the magic of the setting as well
I totally agree on that
If I'm not a fan of Westerns in general, will I not like Jesse James?
>thread about films doesn't get much traction on the film/tv board
figures. you should have posted a social media screenshot or something op.
Yea Forums is overrun with obnoxious idiots. On average, using Yea Forums x filters, 90-100 threads are hidden at any given time. Sadly, this is the best place for open and honest discussion because sites where you have to sign up, you have to walk on eggshells.
overrated - Terminator 2
underrated - Terminator 3
>overrated - Terminator 2
agree
>underrated - Terminator 3
nah
>the matrix
>year of the dragon
>the matrix
why do you think it's overrated?
Because everyone sucks it off but it's an average film that popularized a lot of shitty techniques
aside from anything else i'd say the matrix is one of the most well edited films i've ever seen so i have to disagree with you.
Overrated: Max Max Fury Road
Underrated: Dante's Peak
Overrated: Any Marvel film
Underrated: Splice
If you like great movies you'll like it. it's not your
typical western
>I'm not a fan of Westerns in general
post tits
>THEY ALL GOT TO HAVE BEER!!!!!
It’s one of the best children’s movies ever made, yes
>he has brain damage after fighting Drago this is literally a plot point in the movie.
Its already established in 2 that he has brain damage from fighting.
Every Cimino film besides The Deer Hunter is super underrated.
5 starts with rocky in the locker room after the Drago fight talking to Adrian and confusing her with Mickey. He says he remembers Mickey telling him about fights where he felt like something had broken something inside him and he can't stop his hands shaking.
He talks about in it Creed 2 as well with Adonis when he tries talking him out of the fight with Drago's kid.
Overrated: Inception
Underrated: 25th Hour
>25th Hour
Is that the one where it's ambiguous he went to jail in the end?
>the robot is in the movie solely because Sylvester Stallone saw it at a party and thought it was cool
>Overrated film
The revenant. It wasnt entertaining. DiCaprio was mediocre in it. The cinematography wasnt Oscar worthy. The plot is dull.
>Underrated
A Serious man by Coen brothers. Not once I have seen it declared as their best work and its usually overshadowed by No country for old men and the big lebowski.
Also other overrated films IMO are
>the big lebowski
>The lobster
>Dont look now
>Solaris (1972)
Some other underrated movies
>Barry Lyndon (Kubricks best work)
>Eastern promises
>O brother where art thou?
he was right. based sly did it again.
Overrated: Brokeback Mountain
Underrated: Guy Ritchies two Sherlock Holmes-movies. Never understood all the hate they got
Barry Lyndon is highly rated, just not by the mainstream audiences who like ACO and Kubrick's later works
Agree with everything here except The Revenant. The dream sequences and struggle got a bit too much at time but everything else is incredibly well made. The opening and the indian fight was some of the most kino sequences ive ever seen
Yep, the whole ending sequence was beautiful.
