What really made the bombing on Dresden 'pointless' was that the factories and even the train stations was located outside the Altstadt, the area with the most beautiful buildings, which was completely leveled to the ground.

You do realise most bombing raids never actually do that much damage, right? Because accuracy of bombing was near impossible outside of low level daylight raids. Something that Dresden wasn't. The railways and station were damage and the bombing of Dresden was done on the demand of the Russians who wanted it done due to the masses of troops there. Next, the bombing of Dresden drew various support away from the Russian lines (Dresden caused German command to move AA from the Eastern Front to defend factories and so on). Again, Dresden was not as pointless as people claim. What was pointless was something like Hamburg.

The Americans excelled at daytime bombings which they did actually did bombed Dresden the same day following the British night bombing.

My grandma is from eastern prussia. When the russians came they locked all the woman in a cellar. Quite often they would rape them one after the other.
