Most of the plot of GoT is built around that prophesy. Having it not be true is fine, but the story never even addresses it. Melisandre was a huge believer in that prophesy, but then she's the one who tells Arya to kill the Night King. Why would she do that after all the effort she went to trying to make the prophesy play out? Siding with Stannis, bringing Jon back to life, bring "ice and fire" together. Was there a secret part only she knew that said Azor Ahai's sister was actually the chosen one?
And it's a prophesy that's known world wide. What's everyone else who knows about the prophesy now thinking? Both the white walkers and dragon queen are dead. Do they think the prophesy has yet to be fulfilled, or that they read it wrong? Are there now conspiracy theories going around that the battle at Winterfall never happened, or that Daenerys never even existed?

the only thing I wanted from this show was a bigger nod to the idea that dany, jon, starks, lannisters - they all didnt matter as the scale of the war between several gods. We kind of saw this when Melisandre died at the end, but I really wish the story expanded on this more. The idea that the lord of light was taking out the old gods' agent (night king) is pure kino. All the characters are just pawns to the gods they serve, who I believe are all real. Drowned god, lord of light, old gods, the seven - all real cosmic beings waging war against each other with our characters caught in the middle, trying to make sense of their destiny. Kind of like greek gods with different hierarchies. In the end, the old gods suffered a major blow with the deal of the night king.... or he could have just been their fuck up. But they really weren't doing much to stop him. Thus, the Lord of Light finished it. Still, old gods won with Bran taking the throne.

Thanks m8. I haven't read anything else by grrm except his SoIaF books but I have heard he was primarily a sci-fi writer before this series. I feel that the main story being mostly about a petty war with gods with humans as the stories pov would be where he's going. While Dany isn't a followerer of the Lord of light in the books, I think she is going to be. The old gods prepared an army of the dead and whitewalkers to challenge her invasion way before she's even born since their all knowing. Dany influences where she goes, so bringing the LoL to Westeros would mean new worshipers, a direct threat to the old gods. This the struggle of ice (old gods) and fire (LoL) and their agents. The Northmen worship the old gods, but aside from Brans visions, I don't recall the old gods ever blessing men like the LoL does to his followers. Old Gods are just not the god of men.
