Comedians are funny now adays

in the day no one, literally NO ONE liked Andy Kaufman
His role on Taxi shows what a massive talentless sellout he was.

Nah everyone loved him, zoom zoom, especially on Taxi

The closest person I can think of is Gregg Turkington with his Neil Hamburger routine

Joaquin Phoenix got pretty close with I'm Still Here.

Because every poster on Yea Forums is Andy Kaufman

they wouldn't dare wrestle women down like Andy

Was it autism?

Literally the least funny woman on the planet.

He was more of a performance artist than a comedian. A lot of times getting a laugh wasn't the point.

>sellout

Nah. It's fine if you aren't smart enough to appreciate his talent- not everyone is- but there's no way anyone could call him a "sellout."

What’s that Gregg Turkington prank call album? The name escapes me but it was audio kino

Really unfunny "actors" dudes who only got anywhere because of neopotism?

did you not watch his shows? theres one on youtube where he just pretends hes having a panic attack the entire time and the crowd is dying laughing

Kaufman was as much a performance artist as he was a comedian. It's rare to be able to combine those aspects successfully.

He not funny

What do you mean? "I'm just pretending to be retarded" is still very much en vogue it's how Sam Hyde convinced a generation of Reddit fags he was actually funny

he came around at a time when standup was just telling street jokes on stage. literally doing anything unexpected in a comedy club back then blew people's minds. you can't replicate that now.

a lot of artists dont care about laughs and will do silly shit just to get a reaction. eric andre and sam hyde come to mind. but the difference is, for them the motive might be political or mean spirited, but with kaufman it was genuinely JUST for the reaction. at least as far as we know, the fact he died early mythologized him and made him a huge enigma.
personally? I think andy was just a jew with that mental illness gene in him.

care to extrapolate?

Look up the meaning of that word

Andy Kaufman said himself, he's not a comedian "I never told a joke in my life, I'm a song and dance man'

huh???
what u mean??

Phil Fish is acting now?

I thought he was Berkowitz for a split second.

"extrapolate" evidently doesn’t mean what you think

>yes I just read kaufman's wikipedia page today, how could you tell?

meaning...?

He was the worst character on Taxi which really says something about boom booms and their taste.

I seriously doubt that anyone in our generation finds him funny. people think it makes them intelligent if they like him, but really it's brutally unfunny.
>that's the point, it's not comedy it's art!
exactly, it's post-modern nonsense and the only reason to consume his work is to signal to others that you are "smart enough" to "get it"

I still don't like him. Post literally one funny thing he ever did.
