I guess Mignola didn't like Del Toro's movies, and Perlman wouldn't sign on if Del Toro wasn't going to be a part of it?

And the joke's on Mignola because this one was shit.

This. SO MUCH THIS

It doesn't make any sense, Del Toro's flicks were as faithful as it was gonna get, and the art direction was perfect.

the monsters design is boring here as well. Baba Yaga looks just like generic 90s witch. Hellboy kinda looked funny when he walks, I dont know why.

Also I saw this back to back with Dark Phoenix and both had literally the same boring plot.

I actually liked this more than the first two

liberal retardation

Del Toro's movies were just successful enough but they didn't make bank
Del Toro wanted a bigger budget for the next one but they wouldn't allow it so then went with a cheaper reboot

I don't know. Why does Yea Forums fucking suck so much tonight?

kikes did it

They met in late 2016 to try getting H3 made, but Del Toro's schedule apparently wouldn't work for it.

all I know is the new one sucks and I want del taco and pearlman to do another one before pearlman is too old,he's probably already too old but idk stick him in the makeup

the new blade is gonna be shit too you just can't replace a iconic character played by another actor especially while the original is still alive.

Ron is hellboy Snipes is blade, period. Anything else is just going to be trash.

Hardly seems like a question to me, they reboot everything. It seems like a thoughtless go to answer for movie execs. 'Let's remake this', 'well sir, we already remade that', '...have we rebooted it', *sly smiles*. It's something they own the rights to and thought they could sell to a new audience with some of the old audience returning out of curiosity. It's as simple as that.
They were hardly faithful at all, they were good but way the fuck off from being faithful.

The brand sells (in theory) and they wanted to do it for cheap. Thats all.

>let's reboot it and adapt 4 different stories that happen literally halfway through in the overall comic book timeline
>also let's basically stop the movie to do exposition scenes so people can catch up but do it in the most lazy or convoluted way possible to leave them even more confused
>cherry on top of the cake let's make the cgi look like a demo reel from Van Helsing

>make the cgi look like a demo reel from Van Helsing

Was that bad? I can't really remember I know I didn't like the Dracula Wives transformations but everything else seemed alright. I really liked that version of Hyde, out of almost any movie version of Hyde it's one of my favorites. I think Mary Reiley is the only one that comes to mind as being over all better but that's just over all performance. As a "monster" Van Helsing Hyde was really good.

I just rewatched the Hyde scene, I take back what I said about the CG. It is not that good.

they reboot everything

Because that annoying LI ruined the first 2 movies

I liked the new one because of BASED Milla

>let's reboot it and adapt 4 different stories that happen literally halfway through in the overall comic book timeline
really? it sure felt like the movie had too many set pieces that none of them became actually significant. Just rushing from one to another. The giant fighting part wasn't even necessary for the story.

I think you could make a pretty awesome movie out of an adaptation of The Conqueror Worm with some Wake the Devil mashed in. Mainly because I'm a sucker for Lobster Johnson and I'd love to get him involved at all. Was surprised to see him snuck into the reboot. Shuffle things around a little bit where the Hellboy mythos so that Roger looks like a normal human. You can even have him think he's a normal human, but people in the BPRD treat him kind of weird aside from the core cast of Hellboy, Daimio, and Liz. I'd love to include Abe, but Daimio deserves better treatment.

Have them wander around some remote village and then a big gothic castle in a mission that's much like Conqueror Worm where a German man asks for some help. Nazis as the bad guy is an easy shorthand for the audience to get "Oh yeah, bad guys, they did occult stuff. Makes sense." No need for convoluted antagonist set ups. Have Roger discover the secret Nazi intent along with the fact that he's a homunculus, makes some bad decisions because he finds out the group knew the whole time but didn't tell him, the group makes up because self-discovery, family, origins don't matter (Hellboy's wheelhouse), yadda yadda. Roger sacrifices himself to save the day. You get the poignant end of Conqueror Worm, but don't really include any of the stuff about Hellboy leaving. You could just use that as set up for the next movie if you wanted to do a Hellboy in Mexico/Africa type thing.

Oh and have Lobster Johnson as a red herring throughout. Like the castle obviously has some spooky shit going on with the souls of the dead not departing and showing up every now and then, but have Lobster Johnson appear to Roger throughout like he's a bad guy, then do the big reveal at the end that he's a "good" ghost and fights the Nazi spirits forever in the hall and helps the heroes out when things are dire. Easy bait and switch.

Hell. They coyld have just done a low budget reboot with Seed Of Destruction which is at its core prrtty much a haunted house story, with bigger things looming over the horizon.

I have no idea why the fuck they chose to cram so much into this stupid movie. Why the fuck wpuld you rush story from the end of the book series into the first film?!

I think Seed of Destruction would have been too much like Del Toro's first movie since it was a loose adaptation of SoD.

I get the hesitance to retread the same ground when there have only been two movies.

Mods banned like 300 people for that cartel thread.

Yeah, but I'm a purist and I hoped for a more faithful adaptation. Instead we got the opposite. It was even further from the source material, missing a bunch of some of the stuff Del Toro nailed.

They didn't want to put the money for a proper sequel. But then they still own the IP, so they make a cheap movie using the IP. It's shit, they lose money. Jews never learn.

This basically. After hulk and spidermans proved you could get away with rebooting capeshit even within the span of a single generation of kids, there was no going back. The reboot is the new sequel.

think anons point was that deltacos HB was way more faithful than the movie we got this year.
In light of that mignolas comments seem off

what cartel thread?

because it was lit as h*ck

Get your facts straight retard. They actively denied del torro

What gets me about this film is why pic related is in it. I mean like, even if you're absolutely desperate to diversity cast a character, how did this bitch's "acting" make the cut? I mean, there are A LOT of hungry black female actresses out there, so they basically could have picked and chosen, but they ended up with this phenomenally untalented charisma void who can't even do a convincing english accent.

How does it even happen?

Hell. They coyld have just done a low budget reboot with Seed of Feed which is at its core prrtty much a haunted house story, with bigger things looming over the horizon.

Hellboy doesn't need to be some crazy big budget monster film. Hellboy is the world's greatest paranormal detective and he has done next to nothing in the movies to show it. If they wanted to do something unique for the character, they should do a paranormal mystery film where Hellboy is just investigating something going on.
If they were to do Seed of Destruction, have it set up the story of them going to the Cavendish estate but have the bulk of the movie set within the estate. Let the characters be the characters, hell they could even make it have horror elements similar to how the two IT movies do, not really jump scares but more of tense moments where you know something is going to happen and you get to watch it happen unfold in front of you.

Hellboy is really one of those franchises that would work way better as a tv series than as movies.
Pretty much all of his best storylines are lengthy mysteries with plenty of twists and turns. Even del toro's efforts barely managed to squeeze the plot in for the frog arc.

Who is the new Weinstein (sp)

I agree, but if they absolutely were adamant about making another movie, they need to REALLY scale it back and just focus on a single part of a slightly larger story.
The can't take 3 volumes of Hellboy comics and skim off images or tiny details and call it a movie.

>The can't take 3 volumes of Hellboy comics and skim off images or tiny details and call it a movie.
Even capeshit does this. They skimm off 8mages thet look coll, with none of the connective tissue. They are scenes all for show with little storytelling framework to back it up. Hollywood is a hollow uperficial place that doesn't care about story and character.

Full Retard Mode.

How many times do we have to watch Hellboy become the goat swordsman only to reliquish it the last minute. It's getting tiresome when they keep hinting at this even during the first movie and all the way to the remake.

Also a were-cat? Geezus. This franchise just keeps moving in the same direction at least Elf prince was a good villain along with the constructs in the original.

Fuck Mignola.

Del Toro took elements of his comics and made an absolute masterpiece with HB2. A third movie that was more emotional and final would have been incredible.

Mignola is a fucking faggot who deserved to have his "more faithful" reboot be complete fucking garbage. Fuck him and fuck hellboy now, I'm never spending a cent on anything that isn't HB3.
