I still watch Doug from time to time, but the only YouTube channels from that site I'll visit from time to time is Cinema Snob and Phelous because phelous makes fun of the internet movie critic genera that Doug created. the rest were always garbage. especially Spoony. I've recently fell back into watching Douge after literally years of not watching him. It's very rarely because I value anything he says, nor does he even really make me laugh, but there's something oddly compelling about it as background noise. Listening to his vids while you're doing something is like marathoning a sitcom.

The one thing I've grown to respect Douge on was how he handled #changethechannel. He's legitimate proof that sometimes, ignoring things can make it go away. Much more than I can say for Spoony, who's incapable of earning respect.

It's fascinating. The youtube movie review scene has evolved so much from the time that he started. High production values are the norm and yet he continues to survive off of something that looks like it was put together in the early 00s. Really makes you think.

Well, to start off:
he is/was legitimately extremely mentally and physically ill + a hypochondriac + was left by a girl which he was absolutely dependent on.

Also, he hated his fans and being somewhat famous.

He was always known for a horrible work-ethic: Missing deadlines he set himself. Delaying projects. Dropping projects etc.

Then Patreon was becoming bigger and he went on it. He was still VERY popular at the time and raised $5k a month. He set as a goal to make a "Spoony Movie" at 5k. Nobody wanted to movie, they just wanted to support his work.
He announced he will write and direct the movie now and his other projects will be set aside. So he used the movie as an excuse for 6 months for little to no content. Then a year. Then 2. He banned all people who questioned him in any way and eventually deleted his fan-forum completely.
His patreon patrons never received the things they spend money on (special videos etc.)

Finally he didn't upload at all but spent an insane amount of time with insane ramblings about movies and trump and "trolls" on twitter. Literally like 80-120 tweets a day.

Then he was banned from twitter (apparently for repeatedly threatening people) and his main website went down also.

He streamed 1-2 times a month on youtube and those streams were kind of fascinating: Yelling at his viewers, bragging in delusional rants about how he is still popular, silently playing the game, like he forgot he was streaming. It was a shitshow. I think he stopped streaming as well 9 months ago or something.
