I unironically love clowns and think they’re entertaining and funny. Which sucks nowadays cuz people assume I’m a juggalo or have some clown fetish but that just isn’t true. My grandma had a few really nice clown paintings in the hallway of her old house. Don’t know what happened to em after she died, my mom doesn’t know/care. Wish I could track down the artist.

depends entirely on the makeup. OPs picture, ignoring the obvious evil design elements, wouldn't be a scary clown encounter. his makeup is too sparse and you can see his real face under it. his eyebrows are covered but you can still make them out, which helps with reading his expressions.
the reason anybody has coulrophobia is the uncanny valley. it's not clowns like pennywise, it's the guys who cake on the makeup to the point their humanity disappears and you can't read their expressions properly. then you stick a cheap curly artificial looking wig on his head and baggy misshapen clothes and you've basically got a garish living scarecrow.

I worked at a carnival as one of my first jobs and one of the things people don't realize about clowns is that they're all ridiculously strong. They all lug so much shit around setting up and breaking down not to mention the stuff they do while performing. The carnival I was at had 10 clown/roadie dudes and half of them legit looked like bodybuilders, if there's any reason to be afraid of them it's that.
