There are plenty of actors who routinely appear in low budget indie films, with small roles in big budget films, and the occasional starting role, who can consistently get work in major and minir films.
The reason they get work is because major industry directors, and producers, and major actors like having them in films, because they can help guarrantee the film will not be complete shit.
Benicio Del Toro and Kevin Spacey routinely got work in major films as well as minor films before becoming big stars.
Michael Stuhlbarg is constantly in major films as well as indie stuff, and only occasionally has starting roles.
