Why Does Leftism Infect All Forms Of Media?

Pseudointellectualism: the discipline.
art is about pushing boundaries and exploration. it's impossible for there to be conservative art. unfortunately, there are few great artists so all the hacks "push" the same boundaries that have been pushed a hundred times before and people eat it up.
Crash Course is literally John Green.
Dig a little deeper next time. Youtube is incredible now for free lectures and days of content for previously obscure subjects.
This was the video:

They're all like it. All these sort of "Topic X Explained" vids inject a heavy dose of leftist opinion points rather than a simple objective overview of the subject.
>art is about pushing boundaries and exploration
Source on that?
>it's impossible for there to be conservative art
Lmao what?
Drawing pepes and (s)oyjaks isn't art
Architecture was for the longest stretch of its history a conservative form of art in that it went back into the past for inspiration and recreated old architectural forms with modern materials. It was only in the XXth century when this mega-stupid idea was formulated that architecture became all about rejection of the past (and it's been hot puke ever since)
Hi user. If you want to learn about philosophy don't watch any videos. In fact, don't consume any secondary sources. One of my degrees is in poli sci with a focus on political philosophy and I made a reading list for you. Read these IN ORDER.
>Plato
The Euthyphro
The Apology
The Crito
The Phaedo (generally these first four are packaged together)
The Republic (this is much larger than the previous works and you may have trouble getting through it. Some schools of thought would even hold that most of it is a superfluous distraction. Pay attention to the argument with Thracymachus, the cave, and ESPECIALLY the discussion of the tyrannical man.)
>Aristotle
The Politics
The Nicomachean Ethics
Boom, now you understand the classics. Congrats. If you want you can take a brief peak at Cicero just to fully understand that Rome didn't produce any worthwhile philosophy beyond what you've already learned.
Now you can move onto the moderns. I would say that the most important are
>Locke
Second Treatise on Government (you can skip the first, it's just a refutation of the divine right of kings which you may not even be familiar with)
>Hobbes
The Leviathan (comparing and contrasting with Locke here is very interesting)
If you want more metaphysics from this period you can check out some Aquinus (if you liked Aristotle but want a Christian lens) and/or Kant.
Finally we get to the first of the post-moderns and IMO the only one worth a damn
>Nietzsche
Beyond Good and Evil (slave/master morality)
Twilight of the Idols (can only be understood properly once you have read the other things I've suggested)
Good luck buddy! You'll find the death of Socrates series at the beginning pretty easy reading and don't worry if you get bogged down in the Republic. As Socrates says, most of it is simply relish.
>decide to read up on english
>not sure where to start
you're a fucking moron
based, not OP but I'll read these now
you do know that conservative does not mean things that have already happend. rather its about conserving an established set of beliefs and values.
the renesance took librarly from the pas and the movement would in no way be considered conservative.
>start listening to stephen west's podcast on philosophy
>he breaks up with his wife
>rationalizes his cuckdom philosophically and why it's ok that she's happier with someone else
At least he got through the ancient philosophers at that point. I'm not sure if he divorced his wife, but that episode definitely sounded like it. Had to drop the poor guy after that... Jesus Christ that was heartbreaking to listen how he pretended to be ok with the divorce. The emasculation of the western man truly is a marvel.
I thought about doing that but I thought I might find the raw texts confusing.
>the only one worth a damn
I disagree. Schopenhauer is the only one worth a damn. Nietzsche is edgy and irrelevant.
People that think Nietzsche is edgy probably read him without reading the classics first. Nietzsche is a response and challenge, an important part of the ongoing historical philosophical dialogue.
People that suggest Nietzsche is irrelevant are simply ignorant.
You could make an argument for Heiddegger (interesting DESU) and Foucault being "worth a damn" but you'd have to dismiss all of Post-Modernism to dismiss Nietzsche. And doing that would be like refusing to listen to counter arguments.
based 100iq normie
>but you'd have to dismiss all of Post-Modernism
Good.
this guy's smart... the question is... does he fuck?
This list is the biggest steaming pile of horseshit that I've come across, did you perhaps get an online degree? Imagine ignoring decades of experience and refusing to read secondary sources. OP should just focus on one area and study that like existentialism.
Secondary sources only pollute the philosophy. None of these things are too complex to understand on your own, this is undergrad stuff. If you want to consume secondary sources it should only be done AFTER fully digesting the primary source, lest it improperly color your perceptions.
Also, suggesting that OP "focus on one area like existentialism" demonstrates a lack of understanding of the practical use of a philosophical education. By starting with the classics and moving forward one can understand the full scope of western philosophic thought. After someone understand all of these arguments and their counter arguments a person should be able to construct a rock solid belief system for themselves which follows logically from a singular base assumption.
Telling someone to focus on one thing, like existentialism,is like telling them to forget learning and instead just adopt a belief system that you chose for them.
leftism will not tolerate any disobedience. everything has to be assimilated into its dominion and made "acceptable." anything that deviates will be targeted by leftists and subjected to relentless demand for change until they get their way. that's what they did with tv, movies, comics, games, sport, science, education, politics, and on and on. they're doing it now with this site
It's quite a feat to ask someone to tackle the entire western philosophical tradition - how might you explain the context where these texts came from? Yes, there are things to be learnt only via the primary texts, however, people have devoted lifetimes to studying these texts. I am presuming that OP has enough faculty to dismiss them on his own accord, but it would be silly to completely ignore them
The Greek were serious homos though? What's the problem
It was a different time
Read Think by Simon Blackburn.
>taking philosophy seriously
Philosophy as a subject has been riding the coattails of natural science for roughly 200 years now.
It's literally the subject for brainlets who are too dumb to study actual science.
you have that backwards
at the risk of sounding like a mega psued, i literally cant read any philsophy anymore because nothing surprises me. Every philosophical system, code, or thought experiment you could throw at me i feel like ive heard some version of it already
>nietzsche
>postmodern
Is this a Yea Forums meme.
>just because I'm a retard doesn't mean I shouldn't give my stupid opinion on everything
Leftism is alright, it’s this new cancerous form, which seems Bolshevik and sinister and hate filled. The screams of the ugly and talentless and bitter.
>It's quite a feat to ask someone to tackle the entire western philosophical tradition
No disrespect, but that's not really true. You've been convinced that these things are beyond your reach or understanding but they're genuinely not.
You could read everything I suggested in less time than it'd take to binge watch Supernatural. The only difference is, reading these will actually improve your life in several practical ways going forward.
