Who was "The" Jedi referred to in the title Return Of The Jedi? Was having this argument w my wife & I say its Anakin, was always Anakin & the whole damn trilogies were Anakin's story. The other characters were just side characters to his story, even Luke. Although he was a driving catalyst in the first ones.
She thinks its return of the Jedi order (but it wasn't cause there wasn't one) or Luke was "The" Jedi (but he wasn't one). Anyway, what would he be "returning" from?
>Luke was "The" Jedi (but he wasn't one) "I am a Jedi knight, like my father before me"
Nathan Fisher
It’s both, but you are correct that even the OT is anakins story
Parker Flores
Luke was supposed to bring back the order. Yoda told him so, not explicitly but "pass on what you have learned" says a lot. Luke was" the last Jedi", yes, despite being barely trained and not reaching his potential at that time.
Cooper Peterson
could be Jedi plural, both Luke and Anakin, and I guess Leia too technically
Nicholas Adams
Yeah but within the lore he literally wasn't one. Just the son of one that had high force powers.
Jason Thompson
It.meant return of the jedi as a whole, not a singular jedi
Jonathan Watson
Its Luke. He completed his training according to Yoda and is a full fledged Jedi.
Christian Hernandez
He was re-establishing the Jedi order.
Matthew Campbell
This scene always makes me feel happy about anakin being redeem.
Charles Miller
Luke was literally hiding on a planet for a year, he “returned” to face Vader
David Torres
>I've got to save you! >you already have, user. You already have >tell Reddit, you were right about me, you were right

This just reminds me how pointless the sequels are. They just destroy a beautiful ending. Imagine a separate story, not having much to do with these characters but they're still around. I wonder what George Lucas had in mind?
Brayden Price
The original title of the movie was Revenge of the Jedi but Lucas changed it to Return because its shorter and would save money on printing posters. Revenge of the Sith was a nod to this og title. So I guess Lucas is the Jedi in question in this context?
Ryan Rivera
Well the obvious next chapter is Luke restoring the jedi order and then a new evil arises or something. They decided to just skip all that, make Luke a failure and then he just dies alone on some island.
I think Lucas would have made a story about Luke's son trying to live up to his father's legacy
John Torres

>This just reminds me how pointless the sequels are. They just destroy a beautiful ending.
They really did. I was born the year the first one came out & they always seemed like a family drama set in space. I couldn't give a single shit about anything that happens outside of that because it just seems tacked on. Star Wars died with Vader & I haven't even watched the sequels.
Jonathan Rogers
George Lucas said the movies are about the Skywalker family.
Hudson Nelson
return of 'the jedi,' as in anakin and his children
Blake Stewart
The thought of Luke being such a shit teacher that his own students left with Kylo will never stop being funny.
>Yeah but within the lore he literally wasn't one. Citation?

>Return of the Luke, Luuke, Luuuke, and Big Luke.

The OT movies are the only ones that are good everything else is non-canon to me

Just slap your wife and tell her to stop being a cunt

My god, why do people overthink this shit? Lucas sure bloody didn't. Return of the Jedi was a last minute title change from Revenge of the Jedi, a title that is supposed to give the viewer the expectation that Luke (who is now supposedly a Jedi) gets revenge. Doesn't precisely go down that way but ya think Lucas gave a toss? The title means literally nothing. 'the Jedi' is Luke and he Returned from his bloody morning tea break.
