Netflix will be dead and it's trying prolong it's inevitable demise.

Let's unpack this, folks.

Much better for Yea Forums conversations/thread

I don't see the benefit really? I would guess the idea is to keep people subscribed throughout an actual season but from my perspective, every season of most shows has a few episodes at least one or two that really fail to impress me. And it's not that big of a deal when I'm watching them all on one day but that drawn out feeling of being disappointed then waiting a week and being disappointed again, I don't even consciously "drop" the show but buy the third week I've lost that urgency to see what happens next.

>y'all
die

and that's a good thing

Very bad move

i'm fine with it

sheeeiiiittt

i can't imagine the concept of binging helps the profitability of a series overall. so many things come and go in a week, how are you supposed to get attached enough to go out and buy the merchandise?

They had a huge drop off after stranger things season 3, a bunch of people subscribed then unsubscribed after watching it all. They are hoping this will keep people subbed for a few months instead of watching everything at once.

>Be from Arizona
>Move to North Carolina
>Hicks that say "Y'all"

I die a little inside every time.

fake

they're trying to stop people who subscribe for one month when a series is released, binge it, then cancel

Every single Netflix show I've watched falls into the pattern of the real ending of the last episode is the start of the next episode. It makes it better for binging but I cannot imagine this formula working week to week.
I just don't know if they're smart enough to course correct or not.

my folder of black women is getting alarmingly large...

Good. Maybe now Netflix will learn how to do real television shows. Instead of 13 hour long movies.

what the fuck is 6ixbuzz doing on Yea Forums

Yep. Disney announced doing this first, so it became justifiable to do the same in their eyes for Netflix.

I don't care if their shitty shows are released every week or all at once

OP here, I don't use Netflix I stopped paying for it in like 2011 I use Kodi.

I just want to see ppl react to this desu lol.

Cool. It gives you more time to digest and discuss the story. The way it currently is, people blast through the latest season of, let's say, Stranger Things in a day or two, and then promptly forget about it. The big part of a successful show is people talking about what happened in the most recent episode, and speculating on what's going to happen next.

Thanks Mr. Board Member

>netflix series will now

Looks like injecting the consumer market with entire series was a foolish move. I've known this since the start.

This. I welcome it because it will force them to stop their shitty formula of episode 1 and 8 having all the story and 2-7 being almost entirely filler. Might also make them consider making the episodes adhere to some sense of being a contained chapter and not just one long episode randomly starting and ending every 50 minutes.

Attached: Mr horse.jpg (512x384, 49K)

We live in instant gratification culture. I binge watch most good shows but really it kinda loses it's charme after a while as you have nothing to look forward to and end up in an eternal wait cycle.

>comes out that disney will only do weekly releases
>netflix tags along

gonna be a little bit of a weirdchamp for me buddy

normies are now accustomed to being able to binge garbage whenever they want, this will actually cause a decrease in subscribers

most people subscribe and forget about it if they watch a few things a month, not being able to control viewing activity is a pure downside

personally I would prefer having a reason to watch on a routine day

this

Except this never happens if the subscription rate isn't high.

So why won't people just wait until the last episode is uploaded then, sub, watch, and cancel?

nobody wants to be out of the loop user

Should be up to the creators of the show. Seems appropriate to let them implement the show running policy that suits their own structure and narrative best.

probably too much.
I'm finding myself less and less interested in white and asian women.
I had a girl chat me up the other day and I barely even registered it because she wasn't black.

Yeah we have a lot of people from Florida here. I wonder why they chose to come here of all places?

i used to like having all of the episodes at once but then i realized i liked it better when it was weekly.

that way you can theorize shit and generate conversation with your friends.

When a full season drops at once, people watch it and don't discuss it completely, just some stuff you remembered.

Moved to NC from Seattle.
One of the best decisions I have made.

I really hope the Expanse releases weekly. I want to watch it with my friends, but I don’t want to have to make it some kind of 12 hour middle school LAN party

seattles great though

give me a fucking break. why? how does this benefit them in any way? keeps a subscriber a few extra weeks?

netflix's whole business model was binge viewing. nobody wants to watch a show one episode a week. half the time they'll probably just forget about the show unless its' really good. fuck this bullshit.

it benefits netflix, marketers, and media producers. but mostly marketers. As marketing for a product won't just end a few days/weeks after it drops.

doesn't benefit the consumer at all, but fuck the consumer. You don't make money putting the consumer first.

of course people discuss it completely, there's just not as much speculation and theorizing because all the episodes are available at once. it also leaves the board much faster. i mean a show like mindhunter's second season has been out for only a few weeks and there already aren't any threads about it (it was kind of a weak season though if i'm being completely honest.)

Not a fan.

you're morons and the world would be better off without you. What you call "discussion" is simply having people exhaustively explain to you what you just saw.

I don't watch anything Netflix puts out so this doesn't really affect me at all
It's probably preferable honestly, the "Watch 8 episodes at once" format isn't really conducive to discussion or appreciation of the product you're watching since everything gets boiled down to a handful of explosive moments you can performatively react to for your friends. It leads to a massive backlog of things you're never going to get to because it becomes daunting to see that you have 30 series with 12 episodes each that you need to choose between. Assuming you aren't watching typical Netflix shit filled with poorly made filler, the weekly format would be beneficial to your viewing experience, but if you are watching shitty filler for 45 minutes each week, it becomes intolerable. In an ideal world, this would be accomanied by a move to a mini series format, where you pack more quality into fewer episodes that actually matter, but Netflix's quality control is so laughable that that seems like a pipe dream

its a better way of discussing the show with friends having a weekly show. cant even come here without binge watching a whole series just so it doesnt get spoilt here.

translation:
>being able to do things in my own time, my own way, is too stressful please take choices/options/freedom away from me

uh that's not true at all. i have no idea what you're talking about. the only thing that isn't present in threads about shows that release all at once is speculation and theorizing, like i said. show me a single thread about a show that was released immediately where the thread consisted entirely of people just regurgitating what they just watched instead of discussing the show and its meaning. you can't because you're full of shit.

solution: don't fucking come here

fucking dumb

>people just regurgitating what they just watched >discussing the show and its meaning

Did I not just fucking say these are the exact same thing? This isn't high art we're talking about here. These are timewaster shows written by fuckwits for fuckwits. Where no matter how far they dumb their shit down, people still don't fucking understand (HURRR WHY KEEP SHOWING BTK IF NO CATCH BTK??)

>I need to ability to waste my life watching 8 straight hours of some disposable TV show because I don't have anything better to do

>i have no arguments so therefore I need to manufacture strawman arguments

what a wonderfully thicc negress. glad to hear lads in here are into them, more PAWGs for me.

Canadian Netflix only or real Netflix?

This is the last desperate move by a dying company. They know their company dies next year when they lose The Office, their #1 most streamed show. No one watches their originals anymore because they suck. Spacing out episode release is a desperate gamble to try to get people to subscribe for an extra month to watch all of the episodes. It's a short term measure to stop the bleeding of money. Won't work long term. Netflix is deeply in debt and next year they start losing money at a massive rate never before seen. Company won't survive even a few years after this.

I am with you on this. Some things should feel kind of epic and when you drop seasons all at once it's anything but. There's just something gluttonous about binge watching some things. Consumed fast, barely tasted, barely remembered, just a big bucket of slop to be gobbled down as fast as possible. Why would anyone want this for anything that is meant to feel big and memorable?

yes, fuck personal responsibility and options. please, corporate masters, make all decisions for me! my mouth is open, moist, and waiting!

>In an ideal world, this would be accomanied by a move to a mini series format, where you pack more quality into fewer episodes that actually matter
That's the bullshit we were fed that got us to 8 or less episode meme seasons. It didn't work out for 90% of shows that are still just filler in the middle. The only difference is that a bad episode of a baby season is so much more disappointing because you have so few to make up for it.

Remember GOT final season marketing? "It's like six movies!!!" My Ass! It still has a few fillers and not a one felt like a cohesive film that could stand on it's own. It's just marketing hype to get people excited about less.

>drop

Attached: 1DB818B8-93BC-4FA0-A310-DC2B7FEEAF2C.jpg (1300x957, 117K)

reminder: week-to-week only benefits garbage shows that exist only to string the viewer along. Content of actual quality/note will continue to be discussed/appreciated long after they're finished, no matter how they're released.

The issue with staying power isn't the number of episodes released per week, its the fact whats released is garbage that people barely want to watch once.

Basically the entirety of the office (US)'s fanbase is a result of it being on streaming platforms. Week-to-week, it was practically a non-entity of a show that only survived so long because it cost nothing. Not to imply the office (US) is anything other than another worthless sitcom, of course.

>shitflix

Regrasas ala ciudad Miamierda, Pedro

It'll be a good thing. I'll watch an entire season of their shows over the weekend then forget everything that has happened by the time it comes back on usually 1.5 years later. Spreading it out will also make them more socially relevant since people will watch weekly and prolong the conversation.

anyone pretending this is a good thing is a shill

netflix was successful because it was consumer forward, because they used to understand they were competing with piracy. now they're progressively being less consumer focused and they just so happen to be a rapidly sinking ship.

What did he mean by using that non masculine emojii?

I really wish Netlifx would rather spend its budget acquiring the rights for good movies instead of investing in originals that no one wants to watch. They actually managed to get the rights to Heavy Metal IIRC, they should spend their money on that instead of shit like sex education of big mouth

No healthy company does this. This is not a move of progress. This is taking a 6 slice pizza and cutting it into 12 slices and claiming you have more pizza

Who the fuck is running this? What a retarded move. One of the novelties of streaming is that you can get it all at once.

This. Nail in the coffin it seems. Good riddance.

Love it, unironically fantastic decision

>drop
Fuck off.

Based. They should also interrupt the show for commercial breaks so that I can go to the washroom, and also designate specific times that the episodes play at

I don't understand why not dump them all at once and the ones that want to watch 1 a week can do that themselves. Is this netflix admitting on the downlow that humans have no self control?

It’s Netflix buying what marketers are pushing. And marketers love week-to-week release schedules because it gives them consistent work.

>Doing this before the Witcher
Literally killing their formula to try to make the next game of thrones goddamn

This. I LOVE commercials. When will Netflix listen to the real consumers and integrate commercial breaks into every movie and show so it's more like TV?

This is stupid because ALL netflix shows without exception start strong, slow down extremely in the middle then end strong. You will have people abandoning these shows halfway through

I’m surprised so many people are against this.
To me it’s obvious that weekly releases is superior.

what was stopping you before from watching the shows once a week?

Because you’re a shill, an employee of an industry that’s rapidly becoming obsolete, and will cease to exist if there is any justice in the universe.

Marketing has ruined everything it has ever touched and it’s end goal seems to be to turn all of reality into a giant commercial.

It’s a knee jerk reaction to Disney+. When they start dropping all their Marvel shit Netflix is gonna have to pull some Game of Thrones tier shit to compete.

It’s funny because if they made every episode strong and rewatchable, they wouldn’t have to worry about people dumping subscriptions after a few days.

Unironically dropped if true.

This just means I won't watch Netflix until the show is fully released

They tried this a few times with other shows and each show was cancelled after the original contract was up....

It's smart because it more like television instead of piracy.

I'm just gonna chime in here and say I'm happy for weekly releases because it prevents shit nuggets from watching the last 5 minutes of the last episode and shitting spoilers all over the net immeditaley and it gets rid of the shitty terrible "binge writing" and maybe now we can get some actual fucking quality stories.

Man you autists are so brain damaged it’s unreal. You’d think you would pick up on how normal humans are at some point

I'd only be okay with this if they did away with the whole 1 season = 1 year model and just put out episodes of shit regularly with no large lulls or with more smaller lulls

>they think this will keep people pasted to their screen
>instead people will look for different shit and wait for season finale in order to binge it.

Attached: ralph.png (290x232, 89K)

If something is good, it can’t be spoiled.

Spoilers mainly, I’ve got to avoid a lot of sites until I’ve finished the show. Also the discussion is hindered slightly because things that happen earlier in the series are forgotten or already explained by the end.

so "normal humans" want giant corporate entities to make all their decisions for them? Because normal people don't trust themselves to think for themselves?

They should just make it possible to have playlists, or rather, create your own custom programming. Like instead of binging one series, you could watch several at once one episode at a time.

Sounds like you took the black pill browgli. There's no going back.

You are missing the point entirely man, which is why I said you are clearly an autist. It’s explained somewhat itt already. There’s benefits to both models, and though the weekly one certainly is favorable to the media companies, the fact you see it as, “if you don’t like it my way you must love corporate dick up your ass reeeeeee!” Says a lot of your state of mind. Try to step outside your autism and see things from other perspectives. Or don’t and reeee about it whatever

here's the actual facts:

the only people who are benefited by week-to-week are marketers, shareholders, CEOs, etc. Because this artificially extends the lifespan of garbage, and constant reminders that garbage exists are necessary in order to keep the garbage from getting canceled.

Full releases do not benefit the aforementioned. Full only benefit the consumer. Read, "you." In quotes because its quite obvious you're a paid shill.

Not anymore. Homeless addicts are everywhere.

full release does benefit the aforementioned just to a lesser extent
youre still using their platform and talking about their products

NNNNNNNNYEAH EHHHH?? So you're sayin that Toronno mans is makin waves eh? Okayyyy dawg.

It's far better, because Netflix's binge watch meme does not sustain serialization effectively. Netflix historically can't support shows that go on for longer than 3 seasons, because subsequent seasons of series will be viewed only by people who liked the first season which is almost always far less than people trying first season just to see if it's good.

To put it bluntly: Netflix would generally benefit more from creating 12 new shows than renew 6 already existing shows in the environment they created.

great, now the transition to the tv model is almost complete

what's next? 4 unskippable commercials per episode? i guess i'll have to pirate mindhunter from now on

that applies to episodic releases as well, my dimwitted friend. Because not only can you not please everyone all the time, you can't even consistently please the people you're currently pleasing.

The only time ratings increase over time is if people who didn't watch the previous episode can be consistently engaged.

show the face of the sheboon and the charm's gone

You can skip the commercials if you pay an extra $5/month, goy. I'm glad everyone wants to launch their own special streaming service now. It's going to suck for consumers in the short term, but long term they will cannibalize each other and we will be back down to 1 or 2 services with everything instead of all the content being divided among two dozen different services.

>I love the smell of shit and opioids in the morning

No, I do not!

It's purely an attempt to extend what they have when Disney+ hits. And to try and limit people who only subscribe for a month, binge, and then immediately cancel.

The problem is that their originals are almost universally shit and take too long to put out new seasons.

It wouldn't suprise new if they started pushing up the gore and nudity/sex angle hard. HBO/Showtime basically invented sexpisition when their respective networks hit hard times.

Disney+ is really scaring the shit out of them isn't it?

For good reason, everyone I know is dropping Netflix immediately in November. They are going to take a massive financial hit.

I didn't have a Netflix subscription before and I'm not getting one now.
It won't impact the quality of their library in any way.

>It wouldn't suprise new if they started pushing up the gore and nudity/sex angle hard.

I'm expecting a lot more explict nudity and sex. They've been putting up a lot more NC-17 movies and hardcore stuff the last few years.

They literally had Love (2015) in the recommended section and that has full unsimiluated penetration and ejaculation.

Good. Binge culture is a fucking disease.

Dumping everything out at once kills a show. Theres no lasting engagment with the audience, it aborts the end credits to shove you into the next episode as soon as possible. Fanbases can't evolve and thrive on the week to week hype cycles, episodes are disposable with no time to digest. Theres a reason a small show like Chernobyl gained the following it did while the massively overhyped Stranger Things straight up vanishes after a week. Weekly releases = better viewerbase = stronger future for the show.

>the ones that want to watch 1 a week can do that themselves
Nobody does this. These shows are designed to be consumed as rapidly as possible, theres a reason they try and make you skip the opening and end credits. You wanna watch one a week? Okay but nobody else will so have fun dodging finale spoilers everywhere.

No friends huh? You werent there for Lost, or Twin Peaks, Brba, fuck even trashpile game of thrones had better longevity than a netflix dump.

Is this real? I am not a social person. I dont watch TV to talk about it on Reddit every week or whatever you normalfaggies do. I want to watch shows at my own pace whenever I want.

Oh well I will just wait for the show to have ended its run.

Generals shouldnt be allowed on this board, after a day the episode is discussed and then the rest of the week is ten autists talking to each other

its bad for neets but good for tv culture

Or 2 months of x-files hype whats up with Mulder and his aliens.
No need to analyse things if you know after a day binge watching most mysteries of the season!

every time I see a general I think of the southpark episode where they join david blane's cult.

>wait, who am i again?
>hehehe, guess who I am guise
>...

This isn't going to save them. Their original content is far less watched than shit like Friends and the Office. Do they think drip feeding their mediocre garbage it is going to maintain people's interest?
lol good luck

I have never seen the term "culture" used to describe anything other than purest cancer.

I'm glad with it.
This user is right. Having full series available at once is bad when you don't have time to watch it as soon as it hits and still wants to browse Yea Forums related pages. You'll get spoilers for sure.
The last example I remember is The Boys: I watched it already knowing that everyone would die on that plane scene, which made it less relevant.

That's not going to change anything. People could just wait until the last episode drops, subscribe, watch the shit in a week then unsubscribe.

This and based. Zoomers BTFO.

Imagine how shit LOST would have been as a binge watch.

>which made it less relevant.
How? Were you somehow of the mind that any of the heroes were actually competent?

>paying for entertainement

It's smart.
You get more publicity if you release them once a week so you get people talking about an episode instead of a season.
Then again their shows are shit and only good for bingewatching on a rainy Saturday.

The whole point of Netflix was FUCK TV FUCK NORMALFAG CULTURE WE BUBBLE NOW.

But its good for folks who actually enjoy conversing with their fellow man. Back to pirating full seasons!

No. Yea Forums is for shit posting and cunny. No offense but the level of taste here is subterranean.

y'all was a south thing
then black twitter stole it
and since being black is hip, whites are now using ebonics
simple as that

it's not about the conversation
it's about money

for a tv show to watch now you have to pay for the subscription multiple times.

it's shit and the only thing that was separating it's absolutely bottom-tier content from the network shit.
network cable: fuck we have to wait a week
netflix: watch as much as you want, it's all god damn finished filming anyway
Now they don't have anything except a bunch of angry people who only subscribed for the free month to watch the 12 episode season in 2-3 days, where it turns out those 12 episodes will now be stretched to 3 months, now we gotta pay Netflix $30 for shit that we wouldn't like in the first place.

I for one am not affected, I've always, always waited for something to be completely done and finished before starting it in case I like it and watch it a lot.

Yeah. Pardon you

Who gives a fuck? I cancelled my subscription to trashflix long ago.

>drop
Why do white women and nerdy Jews and other libtards write like niggers now

lower third of her face is completely missing plus nigger bug eyes. A literal 3/10 incel tier face

fuck you buddy

my only problem with it is I won't be able to pirate it all in a single package
jk lmao there's nothing on N worth pirating

I hope Amazon doesn't do this since they're the platform that's still delivering decent content. Wokeflix hasn't climbed beyond mediocre in years.

Or you wait till you can binge watch it, but than you might encounter spoiler or are late to the conversations.

>waaaahhhhh why do other people get to talk to each other but nobody wants to talk to me waaaahhhhhhhh mommyyyyyy

Smart people loathe stupid people. FYI, the correct form is "all of you" not "you all" or "y'all."

>Back to pirating full seasons!
you funded this retardation in the first place, you never should have stopped

Are you retarded? I think you might be retarded.

my man

bye bye, jewflix.

Even less reason for me to fuck around with subscription services then. Binging a show over a week or so is the only way I like to enjoy them now. Going back to watching shit per week will just end up making me lose interest and move on to do something else. I stopped using cable because of that and commercials. Now subscription services seem to be wanting to go right back to status quo.
