I actually liked the movie but yeah, some of the shit they added or changed is baffling. There's absolutely nothing about her heart being a super advanced reactor in the manga and I have no clue why Cameron/Rodriguez/whoever thought that was a good idea. Later on, she's also sentenced to death for popping off a few rounds from a shitty old revolver at a Godzilla sized monstrosity threatening the entire city. In the movie they even point out that guns are banned, but she still shreds a deckman with a gatling gun and no one seems gives a shit.

the entire reason they send gally after barjack/den in the manga is to try to track down desty nova. The movie makes desty nova the king of salem. So... yea. they're going to have to come up with some completely new original content in order to force anything about barjack to happen in the sequels. But, thankfully, sequel never.

yea, that sounds utterly fucking horrid. as it drops the idea of (JERU)salem being so egotistical that it feels being cast out is the greatest possible punishment, drops the entire idea of desty nova raging against determinism, and is actually contradicted by how nova clearly has full control over every factory/salem system.

The person being mourned up thread was a servant of evil. When 'Toast in the Shell' killed him was one of the more memorable scenes. Or perhaps that should be 'Ghost in the Shelved'. And well-deserved; it felt like the makers wasted my time here with the most idiotic of set-ups. It was merely a pilot episode for a series of (one script fits all) movies that will never, now, be made

I was hoping the first line meant you were going to give us the ending of the movie trilogy. Like alita marries nova after switching into idos now cyborg body and they become a giant tree that grows over the city.
