Muh character development. This is a Reddit thing. They praise character development and lambast any movie where a character doesn't undergo a shift in personality or morals. This is the fault of english classes in our public school system teaching retarded and simplistic narrative frameworks. It doesn't matter to a Redditor if the character development made sense or was intriguing in any way. It just HAS to happen because that is what makes a "proper" story. Not all films require character development. Character development is not always a shift in personality or morals.
Personally, it bothers me if characters in a movie are only used for plot and have few if any lines that lie outside of the plot being pushed forward. I would call that bad character development. Godzilla: King of the Monsters seriously suffered from this, but all the characters had a simplistic "development" arc that shifted their morals or aims.
