forgetting the sequels and the character of Jason, is this a better slasher than Carpenter's Halloween?
Friday the 13th (1980)

Lol.
Halloween is way better and that hasn't even dated very well
Easily better.
I would say yes. But Halloween's soundtrack is top tier.
friday movies are total garbage. i feel sorry for anyone who even has nostalgia for these things
>Halloween
The Father (creator of the slasher genre)
>Friday the 13th
The Bastard Son (a rip-off of Halloween)
>Nightmare on Elm Street
The Unholy Spirit
the ones after 5 are great
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is still the best slasher to this day. Prove me wrong.
>the ones after 5 are great
if you like comedy horror.
to me, slashers are a formulaic bumper crop of actual good horror movies: cheap to make and financially successful. to wit, texas chainsaw and halloween are not slashers. mario bava's twitch of the death nerve has much more in common with the genre and was directly ripped off.
>The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is still the best slasher to this day. Prove me wrong.
It has atmosphere up the ass, but it's a poor slasher. It's just shocking the way it was shot and I say that in the nice way. Friday the 13th Part VI Jason Lives stomps all over TCM1 as a slasher.
they are not really comedy just more light hearted. the kills and build up is way better
No. Once Pamela Vorheese shows up the movie becomes a boring ass chase scene. The first two acts are really good though.
The good parts of Halloween are better but F13 aged a lot better overall.
I guess you're right about that, I was thinking about it in general terms, as in as a whole it's better than any slasher, but I can agree that other those other slashers are much more representative of the genre in specific, so they are better in that sense.
Nah, Halloween is still miles better. The ending to Halloween is also kino as fuck. I wish the series would have ended there.
It's the best horror movie period
No. Friday is fun but it isn’t Halloween.
Did Myers disappear at the end originally or was that added after 1978?
yeah, but both the original halloween 2 (that's weird to type) and the new one make it clear he only got a few feet before collapsing and being apprehended.
What are you talking about? Myers got all the way to the hospital and killed even more people before he got blown the fuck up.
Halloween was a far better movie than it probably needed to be. Carpenter’s talent elevated it beyond what was a pretty simple script.
That was always the ending. It ends with him disappearing followed by shots of the empty town with his heavy breathing in the background. Kino as hell. Fuck the jews that forced them to shit out a sequel.
Halloween is one of the greatest movies ever made. None of the Friday the 13th films deserve more than a 7/10 and I'm being super generous because I love the genre. Halloween is a top 10 films of all time movie.
patrician
Halloween was a million times better it's not even close. That not I don't like a little gore in my Horror films, but Friday the 13th was the start of gore porn if we're being honest.
>I wish the series would have ended there.
It's not a series if it's just one movie.
Love the last third with the "final girl", the reveal and everything but no.
>TCM
>slasher
Never got that one. Same with people that say The Terminator is a slasher movie.
Never got this either. If you just want to love that one movie and disregard everything else feel free to do so. It's worked great for Alien fans for 40 years.
The original Friday the 13th isn’t even the best movie in its own series.
Where F13 shines over other slashers is as a collective franchise. TCM, Halloween and Nightmare all bad extreme diminishing returns on their sequels. F13 stayed pretty consistent across its entire run, with a few dips, but also a few later series high points that the other franchises never really managed.
I like this movie. I never found Halloween as interesting.
This. Halloween is the most overrated horror franchise.
>franchise
We're talking F13 1 vs Halloween 1 you retard and anyone saying the first F13 is better than Halloween is a lying faggot. As a series, F13 is more consistent and enjoyable but the first Halloween film is a masterpiece and the second is great as well.
...
Friday the 13th part one would have been a masterpiece if i hadt ended where it should have
Hey buddy, no need to get upset about it.
Not sure exactly what you mean by this but the ending is as close to perfect as it gets. Something about a film that's largely grounded in reality that becomes supernatural in the last minute or two gives me a hardy and I'd love to find more shit like that. Especially considering the supernatural shit is talked about throughout the movie but you just shrug it off and assume the mom's crazy.
How so? The movie is creepy as fuck still.
Fuck off
1, 2, 3 and 4 are kino too
I agree.
I binge watched the first 5 recently, had trouble watching 3, and was practically falling asleep with 4. The problem is that they're all so cookie cutter. They're even more predictable then an episode of Scooby Doo, for fucks sakes.
>Teens do shit
>Jason kills teens
>Jason """""dies"""""
>OH NO HE'S STILL ALIVE WHAT A TWIST
It's like the movie is playing peek-a-boo with what it thinks are children.
>Jason find them
>Kills teens
>Jason
Unlike the first two Nightmare is actually enjoyable to watch, and has tons of cute girls (that aren't mega sluts) in it.
On an atmosphere level, I'd say both are on the same level. Except for Friday, the 13th is more gore dependent. Both movies really set the standard for Horror in the '80s.
>On an atmosphere level, I'd say both are on the same level
Do you guys just pretend like you've watched Halloween? The movie drips with atmosphere and makes F13 look like amateur hour. I'd highly recommend the 4k transfer of Halloween if you're looking to actually watch it before posting garbage online about it.
I have a soft spot for the Friday the 13th series but Halloween and TCM are both better than any movie in the series. The first four Friday movies are great though.
the hallucitation part just destroys the supernatural moment. I got goosebumps when he jumps off the water and grabs the girl. End it there and leave everyone afraid of leaving the cinema.
>Do you guys just pretend like you've watched Halloween?
Do you just pretend that you're god and know everything? I own all the films on DVD you pathetic dipshit and probably have been watching these films longer than your millennial or zoomer ass has been alive, and to say that the first Friday the 13th isn't atmospheric with the large lake, campground, and whether aesthetics compared to the rest of the films in its franchise would be in-denial.
That's why I liked the first Friday, and the subsequent ones were nowhere near as good. The sequels focused on smaller sets that were either more urban or more generic.
literally redd*tor tier reply, neck yourself faggot tranny
>Zoomers waxing poetic about movies that came out before they were born. So pathetic. It's all so tiresome.
this
>own the films on DVD
like you can even tell what the fuck is going on. Get them in Blu-Ray at least nerd.
Learn how to meme arrow you knuckle dragging newfag
I agree, and the deeper the F13 films got the less atmospheric they became. The last time you pretty much saw it was probably part 2 even if that film felt different than its predecessor.
>Projecting his redditor status on others
Sounds like something an actual redditor would do. Dilate.
>nerd
>Get them in 4K Ultra blu-ray for an authentic atmospheric experience.
>Friday the 13th has more atmosphere than Halloween
Lmao. This fucking board.
pleb filtered
>high quality video is reddit
yes, enjoy your 17" laptop for "kino viewing" you faggot
LOL yes, quite. These pleb's opinions are all that of trash. But real Contrarians know the truth that Sir Carpenter's 1977 Slasher is amongst the best of all times.
>child can drive a car
It has, you're just too much of a pleb to realize it
>guy just sticks to the wall
>knife's not even fucking through
>I enjoy re-watching the same hour and half movie over and over
Ultra-pleb filtered.
>yes, enjoy your 17" laptop for "kino viewing" you faggot
The best thing about Halloween is how successfully it establishes the shape of the houses' interiors and the general spacing of things, so when Michael's sonewhere you subconsciously know how far he is from another room etc. I can probably drawn that house from memory. And then in the end you have his breathing over all these places you as the audience has visited before. You get to know the shape of the town. It's really well done.
Wish he killed more people though.
>Too dumb for ficking F13
Leave this board
>people unironically think TOM isn't the best original and isn't a slasher movie
If it's not a slasher, than Halloween isn't either.
Infact, I'm going to rewatch it right now
Who the fuck is TOM
TCM, fucking auto correct. The Texas chainsaw massacre
Where my Black Christmas niggas at?
>niggas
cringe. This is a hard R website nerd
Where my Black Christmas niggars at?
Where my Nigger Christmas blacks at?
>Sir! I found this one wandering outside the palace!
Ah, a fellow man of culture.
Nightmare has, pound for pound, better movies than Friday and Halloween.
More comedic than Halloween but overall more enjoyable.
We did it reddit
The endings triggers me and Nancy's dirty long gross nails trigger me too
pleb fucks
Can we all agree that My Bloody Valentine is the most underrated slasher?
haha...you're so reddit, sweaty
I love old audio recordings, they show how innocent people used to be, as compared to now.
Isn't that a band
>1977
>Claims to know anything about Halloween
You and the rest of your fellow inbred zoomer morons know absolutely nothing about Halloween or other Horror movies for that matter. Stick to your anime and tranny porn, queer.
The only good Friday movies are the ones that break the mold so to speak of the typical slasher, i.e. person kills teens, fighting and chasing between the last teen and killer, and the teen killing the slasher so he dies Or DiD hE dIe?
The first has the slaher be a crazy female, who while looks innocent and charming, is deep down a troubled psychopath. They should have kept this angle for future films, it's far deeper then Redneck Rampage: the Movie Series.
The other was the fifth, where Jason was actually just a copy cat killer, and at the end they teased that Tommy would be the new Jason. Not as ideal as the setup with the first movie, but still better then continuously resurrecting the same fucking inbred redneck with retard strength.
I haven't seen any of the Halloween movies yet, but so far I'd rate the Nightmare series above Friday, solely on the fact that the Nightmare series at least kept trying to change the formula for each release instead of rehashing the same plot from the previous hand full of movies.
Halloween is better.since we meet our killer at the start. With Friday the 13th Pamela Vorhees comes out of nowhere. Friday is still a great slasher.
Tears don't fall
I love friday but no, the first halloween movie is miles better
>The original Friday the 13th isn’t even the best movie in its own series.
and I agree with this, final chapter is the best one in my opinion, followed by part 6 and 2
