Because they both have round faces, Solid Snake had several iterations in earlier platforms (Michael Biehn, Mel Gibson) but he is mostly known for his canonical look in MGS, where he was based on Cristopher Walken, with thin face of course.

I actually wrote a college paper for a technology & ethics elective I took. The whole course was the teacher talking about how technology was turning America into a police state and the media was all being controlled. I had just played MGS2 and ended up writing a paper on how the game dealt with those issues. I even used a VHS tape to capture clips from the game since I didn't have any video capture equipment or knowhow back then.
