Is this the Yea Forums version of "it's Skyrim with guns"?

Puppet tits, then?

puppet rape? Hot!

laughed

ratings are coming in pretty high

It has almost nothing to do with GoT aside from a vague fantasy setting connection. GRRM broke the normies' brains.

im pretty impressed that they got so many faces out of the Geflings (instead of just using the same face with different wigs and costumes)
the show is good but every scene where you see their goofy little legs flop around really takes me out of the show

What do you mean buy my game that?

I hope this helps the Jim Henson Company they're not doing so hot lately

is it really all just puppets? they didn't use cgi to do some things like legs? I saw a trailer and some shots looked like they definitely had cgi why wouldn't they just fix stuff like that?

They said anything that talks is a puppet in some of the early production vids

This desu. Dark Crystal lacks politics or gritty realism which is what GoT was all about. Jim Henson mainly wanted to make his own version of LOTR but also push the boundaries of puppetry

I don't trust them to be honest about that at all because it is just marketing. I trust that some of the things are puppets sure but I've also only just seen a trailer. I was just wondering. They said the same thing about BB-8 and even had one out on a stage but I don't think star wars had any practical effects for him at all.

Season 8 GoT though

LotR is Game of Thrones without grit

I think it has four people from Game of thrones doing the voices too. All female.

I like both LOTR and the ASOIAF books (in b4 kys soiboi etc) but this really isn't true. GRRM even said he wasn't trying to emulate or subvert LOTR despite how much his quote gets taken out of context

LOTR is trying to be its own gilgamesh style epic passed through generations heavily tied into deities at the time while GoT is trying to be medieval dynastic battles with some minor magic elements

>Dark Crystal lacks politics
It had a lot of politics with the seven tribes arguing and the back and forth with the Skeksis. The factions infighting is a major turning point in their inevitable demise.

Seladon is the worst.

It was a joke in parody of the OP article

They use cg to enhance the puppet expressions or in a few shots where the full body is shown doing something a puppet couldn't do. There are a few creatures that were shot as puppets and then cg'd over but the movements were all still that of the puppeteers.

oh dear god he figured it out

Definitely go watch it, there's almost no CGI in it outside from a couple shots they couldn't do with puppets. Not as in the puppets couldn't do it, they couldn't do it and still hide the puppeteer, one case is one of the characters running and flipping through trees, but even then the documentary showed they posed the puppet for the CGI to mimic.

>They use cg to enhance the puppet expressions
I can't think of any time that happened, all of the Gelflings seemed to be pure puppets the whole way through as far as expressions?

It had politics in story, not meta politics regarding the real life.

No, it really does fit in very well with the effects of the old series. I was worried about it due to some of the long and establishment shots, but the scenes themselves are really good.

It's the Dark Souls of Netflix

It fucking isn't though.

GoT was just a vehicle for soulless set pieces and shameless agenda-pushing

Dark Crystal is so much more

Okay so I watched the first episode, I've never seen the movie.

Am I correct in assuming the Bird monsters are an (((allegory)))? Also, was the scientist Mark Hamill? It sounded like him.

i thought this was supposed to be a show for kids and manchildren
why is it so fucked up?

It's actually a shortened version of Mithra but okay.

Children's shows used to be plenty fucked up, especially around the era this was originally made.

yes and yes

you should watch the movie smallbrain

The Skeksis aren't supposed to represent any single minority ethnic demographic with disproportionate representation in government or major industry that it uses to manipulate a docile populace for nefarious self-enriching purposes, anyone saying otherwise is simply displaying their own biases

Yeah it's Luke Hamill

Puppets are soulless eh

The skeksis are evil jewish bird wizards, yes, you got it!

untrue

Attached: yay.gif (600x361, 2.81M)

>muh allegory

no

>Jim Henson was inspired to design the Skeksis by an illustrated edition of a Lewis Carroll poem showing two elegantly dressed crocodiles in a bathroom. He became intrigued with the idea of a reptilian race assuming control over a formerly splendid past society.[3] Numerous names were proposed for the species, including Skekses, Reptus, Karackt and Skek-sis.[4]

you're just obsessed prob

Because they look like old corpses with their heads on fire

Because they're AYYS.

yeah but its all about the matriarchy and some shit from the manga.
Also the General in the show is not this general apparently.

It was mostly subtle things and eyeblinks. They show an example in the BTS documentary.

based or not? i dont have time for this

Attached: 1494718136956.png (798x599, 627K)

Based, very based.

is this a prequel/retcon/retelling?

Based and Skekpilled

incredibly based

Prequel with some minor reconning

Question for nerds. Does the series retcon any of the old comics/books? Was considering reading them but I won't if there's contradictions.

Tell me user, do you like.... cute girls?

what about cute girls with green skin, Alita-sized eyes and extremely lax personal hygiene?

Attached: Untitled.png (1366x768, 1.1M)

I doubt it. They brought in the writer from the books and used some of the lore from them to build the show.

given the tone of this show its gonna be really weird watching the inevitable gelfing genocide

it still feels like a huge fan fiction.

The Dark Souls of puppetry.

it's called perpetual virginity & obsession just ignore the sperg and try to actually talk about the series

PEEPER
BEETLE

Kek
Probably

so it's a prequel but does it spoil the movie at all?

Fuck off todd

Spoils the main twist of the movie, and shows scenes that are meant to evoke the ending of the movie but aren't actually the scenes from the movie.

I suppose I'll check out the movie first

Watching the film now. I saw a scene of one of the characters running. Was that someone dressed up, or did they really use puppets and make them run well?

that's definitely an actor in a costume. Probably looked a lot better back in the day before HD tvs

Based

got dayum she cute, 10/10 would snuggle

kind of cool they got a youtuber to do this part because his whole thing is small hand puppets

You know a show is on another level when there’s a gay couple & Yea Forums doesn’t even bring it up because the product as a whole is just that good.

there was a gay couple?

When did that happen? I'm on episode ep 6, so maybe I just haven't seen it yet...

The more I watched it, the more I am convinced that the script writer knew. Either that or it's legitimately a hilarious accidental allegory.

Deet's parents, but they're entirely irrelevant to the plot. I didn't even notice until after I finished the whole series.

I have zero problem with that. These kinds of characters existing is fine when they don't call attention to it. Nobody ever calls attention to straight couples or whatever. It's when their sexual/gender/racial "identity" become fixated on that it becomes irritating to me, as though the characters exist for the purpose of an agenda.

Does it retcon anything? It looked like it did with episode 1 but that was revealed to be narrator misdirecting. If anything it answers a lot of questions, like why Augrha was allowed to bitch the fuck out of the Skeksis when she got dragged to them and why none of them cared while she wandered around their castle.

>giving a show with this much anti semitism with the skeksis this much praise

I wonder what they mean y this. Hmmmmmmmm

oh fuck off

I just assumed that was her uncle.

But is it good?

Very

So with this doing so well do you think they'd try to do a Labyrinth sequel or spin off or is that untouchable now with Bowie dead? I know that was originally what they wanted to do.

>Mommy JenCon has to return to save her kids or somesuch

having three parents doesn't mean any of them are gay

Who has the metaphorical and literal balls to pull off Bowie's Jareth nowadays?

Shockingly, unrealisticly for this timeline good. From Netflix of all fucking things.

The documentary even makes it clear they almost fucked it up but Netflix's producers were the ones who suggested they don't fuck it up, they were originally going to do all the Gelflings in CGI and they looked ugly as shit, but Netflix said just do it all puppets. I don't know how that happened either.

Watched the pilot
The puppetry is nice and all, but the story is garbage so I can't get into it.

>Who has the metaphorical and literal balls to pull off Bowie's Jareth nowadays?
Nobody, and if they tried it wouldn't do well. Should've done it before he died, would've probably been kino.

Jared Leto might be able to come close, but even then he'd just be a different character.

Story is very exposition-heavy at the start just because it's a new world for most casuals. Give ep 2 and 3 a try before you pass judgement.

I know, it's sad. I want to snuggle Deet

already watched the whole fuckin thing,

DEET IS MY WIFE

Already claimed her

I probably will when I'm bored. I'm watching Agents of shield right now since season 6 finally hit netflix.

>watching third-string capeshit over puppetkino
The absolute state

It's ok, he can have EL DEET PÚRPURA

Attached: purple deet.jpg (1718x1142, 624K)

you can have aughra

I hate the dark crystal..

I HATE YOUR WHIMPER

Fuck off podling

I hate the story of the original, but it's not a bad movie if you're into the spectacle of the puppetry. Labyrinth is a better movie tho imo.
what is EL DEET PÚRPURA's power level compared to the normal one?

How do I watch this without getting netflix

use an illicit streaming website (make sure you have uBlock Origin, much easier that way), or just torrent it. Not sure if it's available to piracy yet though.
