I think the "final destination" death domino effects were clever written, or at least that is what made me watch them, trying to guess what starts the carnage and which death trap would kill who and in what order, sometimes having fakeouts or lucky survivors. After the first few the shock of the gore becomes more comedic than anything and i doubt anyone watched these because of the reason you stated op.
