Yea Forums has one of the lowest barriers to entry of any of the boards on the site. Who the fuck in a developed country has never watched a movie or a television show. Hell, most people on this site were probably raised by a tv at some point or another in their life.
Film and tv are easily accessible, widely consumed, and largely made to be easily consumed. Most of what is produced for consumption asks little to nothing of its consumer other than being a mindless observer. So that's what people do, and when they're done, they usually want to talk with others about it. They come speak with friends, family, co-workers, and they come here.

This is why you constantly see Yea Forums flooded with capeshit, mainstream franchise x, shiny new streaming show y, or latest dinsey blockbuster z, instead of wider discussions on things like older films or the art and science of cinematography itself.

Yea Forums at least has 3 different boards to help filter some of the shit. We're stuck with all the cumbrains, capeshitters, and manchildren who only come on here to talk about underage actresses or mouse movies.

Doesn't help that chinkmoot gets Disney bucks to let bot farms shill here.

I'd say it started before 2014, but bane shit definitely marked an increase in the declining qaulity of the board, and the site as a whole.

You have to remember the mid to late 2000's and the early 2010's saw two major changes, the mainstream acceptance of diluted 'nerd culture', and the increased prevalence and usage of smart phones to access the internet.
