Well, I for one, am not even sure yet whether I like it or not because I am still too confused by it.
I watched it in 2014 or so.

It's great, I just don't think I can ever watch it again. I got a lot from in on one viewing, and it's too taxing to go back to.

i see what kaufman was going for but you have to admit that your average joe or jane doesn't give a shit about any of the discussed subjects
it's a fantastically made movie in the sense of symbolism and subtext as the dogfucker has explained it, but i think kaufman wanted to play too hard on trying to make the viewer feel bad about being alone and the human mortality and a bunch of other stuff, and it feels tryhardy and not fully honest

Ultimately its a riff on the one note of its high concept. Its audacious in terms of taking the idea to its logical conclusion but its nothing Shakespeare didn't think about for example. The film is actually more interesting before he starts making his play.

I can deal with the faux-nihilism but come on, Kaufman, you don't need to have a preacher talk to the camera. Be more subtle plz. Very worth the watch for Hoffman though.
