is this a good watch?

Best drama ever made. Dont watch the finale

Season 1 is.

Another good show ruined by the diversity brigade. Sad!

Season 1 is good, concept is interesting, hardly anything gets answered/confirmed.

yeah nothing quite like it. good the whole way through give it a watch you'll enjoy it all. only problem is you will then always open a leftovers thread and and always just argue with each other

No.

Yes. S2 is the best but S1 and 3 are good too

Yes it's excellent. The ending is pretty satisfying as well, so I'm not sure why there's people telling you not to watch the last episode.

damn I loved this show.

It's absolute kino

>Click first link
>Women and minorities
>"deep" oscar baiting crying scene

Oh so it's this type of show. I'm the kind of guy who skips to the next scene whenever some shit like this comes along. Something tells me if I did that in the leftovers I'd be skipping the entire show.

The whole show is kino as fuck but s01 it's just on another level of kino. If there was an alien word for kino, s01 would be it.

Yes, it's the kind of show with women and minorities. You'd fast forward it all, better pick something else.

If you're the kind of person who enjoys that shit then why are you on an alt right forum?

Well where else am I supposed to find what shows to watch? This board talks about shows full of women and minorities I never would have heard of.

Season 1 is Mediocre. It follows the book very closely but they made added things like the dogs being shot. One scene where they really shitted it up was when the Guilty Remnant showed up at the anniversary when Nora was speaking. In the show the people beat them up. In the book everyone just got real sad and that was actually more poignant.

Season 2 was some of the best television ever. Definitely captured my imagination and gave me a lot to think about. The cults where extremely interesting. It was centered around the struggle between faith and nihilism. The Guilty Remnant was a religion but it was rooted in nihilism. They believed that their lives should revolve around a single traumatic event (The Disappearance) and their life’s purpose is to remind others of this traumatic event.

The Indian Woman in Season 2 sets this up perfectly. You watch that and you see either God Saved her baby (Faith) or her and billions of others like her suffered and died and now no one remembers them (Nihilism).

I found Season 3 to be disappointing and very lazy.

do you like late season Lost?
late season GoT?
if so you'll love Leftovers even more than soibeans!

retard

Season 1 is mediocre
2-3 seasons are the best television in this decade
Also there is one of the best endings of any television show ever

I wouldn’t put the Leftovers in with GOT or Lost. One reason is that Leftovers was never very popular so it was beer fashionable to discuss it. Plus Leftovers has intelligent writing. I think you probably were just too stupid to understand it is my guess

I think comprassion with Lost is fair. They talk all the time that Lost is about characters and even in the end their whole point is that the people you spend your life with are most important thing, but most people hated on it because "what's about muh mysteries". The Leftovers have same premise with characters but different approach, the mysteries should be explained through characters and their feelings, they never going to explain it straight

some on Yea Forums likes to say season 3 is the best because it makes them feel smart, but boring is boring. The first 2 seasons are kino, just leave it at that

That is an interesting take. I didn’t really watch Lost DESU. The book Leftovers is based on is about Grief. It’s a pretty interesting way to look at a very large concept. The book actually helped me deal with my own grieving process when I read it. It’s part of the reason why I’m so partial to the show

>only s1 is good
>s1 is the best

100% of cases someone saying that is either a /pol/ack or a retard. Often both. Literally 100% cases.

Scott Glenn kino, especially season 3

this.
don't be tempted to watch the rest of that shit.

>go to old black pedophile's shack
>drink some poison
>youtube.com/watch?v=2F4G5H_TTvU
such is life

It's ultimately pointless just like lost. They set up things that look like they will be answered, and then they never actually are. The finale is a giant waste of time.

brainlet post lmao

I wish I could be amused by mystery box writing from lindelof and JJ abrams. I just can't really. The finale retroactively ruins the entire series, and it was falling apart for pretty much the entire last season.

Do you only like looking at dudes? user, I have some news for you...

>he did not let the mystery be

fucking brainlet. Sometimes it's better to not know some things and if you are too stupid to understand that then i feel fucking sorry for you.

You are now mentally listening to that beautiful recurring piano song.

Attached: 1547401921142.jpg (562x800, 121K)

>Baww why isn't it all answered and tied up in a little bowtie
Christ

I don't care about the greater questions, but just like lost there are so many plot threads and contrivances that just aren't explained and are hand waived away as a hallucination, dream, metaphor etc. The show just strings along the viewer just like lost, and it's just really tiring. You could tell they made the shit up as they went along.

ok, what were the plots threads you had trouble with?

I didn't have trouble with anything, stop acting like the show is complex, or takes a high IQ to understand. It's just poorly written that is all. I haven't watched the show in years so I can't pinpoint exact issues but I know that from season 1 and on shit gets really sloppy.

its a profound show for 19 year olds

its hilarious watching plebs praise this plot driven garbage

its one of the most predictable shows ever written, because every episode is going to need some sort of dramatic occurrence, and that occurrence is often telegraphed episodes in advance.

The first season is the only thing that's remotely cohesive, something lindelof works hard to break, but can't, because there isn't much room for his OC. But the rest of the show is just the same plot-based nonsense lindelof has always done, with his standard "oh it was actually about the characters, despite the fact they had no agency or organic development" ending.

>dat brainlet cope

lmaoo

So how comes Garvey can keep coming back from the dead?

the issues with the show's "plot" is how often lindelof needs to manufacture supernatural garbage """AMBIGUOUSLY""" connected to the depature, garbage he just drops flat because he can't develop said plot devices any further.

The dogs are an example of this, because the dogs are objectively and demonstrably fucking weird after the happening. But he closes this off by making the dog-hunter just batshit insane.

lindelof's career is filed with garbage where he'll drop a ton of plot devices then never connect them to eachother, and act like that's compelling writing. He's of a school that believes explanations aren't as interesting as mysteries as a post-hoc rationalization for the fact he can't write anything remotely compelling.

The best show of the 2010s.

Again, the show isn't deep or complex, it's just really really poorly written, just like all of his work.

this, what's more amusing is the retards in this very thread who get swept up by le epic mystery box storyline, DUDE SO COMPLEX AND INTERESTING

Yeah

>Season 2 was some of the best television ever
Agree with this. Season two was the best. Great show overall

Women are only good for eye candy and that's just if they're hot. If a show actually expects me to have any kind of investment in them as characters then it's going right into the trash.

I thought it was great. Good waifus in Qualley and Coon, unfortunately Qualley gets blacked in season 2. I'm one of the few that thinks it gets better with each season.

Yet you fail to give any concrete examples as to why the show is the way you describe it, and cower away when pressed with an excuse "I watched it a long time ago and don't remember", so either provide examples or fuck off.

read

Sow just a couple of episodes tho.
The first 2 or 3 consecutive and some random ones from time to time when my gf watched it

Another apocalypse move where ppl act hollywodish and not normal

S1 is above avg then 2 and 3 decend into Promethus lost Damon lindletlofts bullshit
The ending is insipid tripe and S3 shite the bed so hard I borderline hated it

lol every single post calling it shit was ignored. Based leftovers base.

Spoiler, nothing happens and nothing matters. Every single plot point is a dead end. Season 2 is the worst trash in television history. The peak was a silent protest....who the fuck keeps memeing that this was good!?!?

What a bunch of faggots you all are. Embarassing.

I did and again, you haven't addressed shit here. You mainly use LOST as your get away card, but Lindelof learned a lot and it shows so just fuck off with your drivel and take it some place else.

Unironically best soundtrack in the history of tv shows. Can someone came up with something as good? Or better?

Piano version of where is my mind 100x

You don’t have any arguments, friend.

Another good example of dropped plot, because it was also lindelof OC, was the ATFEC. Literally nothing happens with this apart from using it as a “get out of jarden free card” at the start of season 3. So it amounts to nothing but a “get me out of this corner I’ve written myself into” device for when lindelof can’t come up with something interesting/compelling.

The Sopranos had a kickass soundtrack as well, an even better one I'd say. Though all the switching of the songs in s3 was really neat.

What arguments do you want, dude? You're the one with all these hot takes that amount to nothing, yet ironically enough bash the show for it. Get over yourself, lmao.

people still so assmad about lost and still watched all of this can't wait for that watchmen shit to start and these niggers can chimp out to lindelof again kek

Damn imagine being this retarded

Yeah, same. It's gonna be fun alright.

The plot is basically irrelevant in this show but I was invested in the characters and it was good at generating that kino feeling. I don't know that it's a good show when you step back and look at the whole thing though.

Friend, doesn’t mention lost at all. It’s a direct criticism of leftovers on leftovers own terms, with no comparisons to other shows. Just general facts about lindelof’s career.

Don't be insecure about the things that you like, The Leftovers is a great show and it holds on multiple viewing.

Seasons 1 and 2 are both god-tier but season 3 has a massive drop in quality

Why is every Matt episode so fucking KINO

why does everything have to be "deep", shit, yea the show was all over the place, it was a mess. things didn't make sense, mysteries weren't resolved. Leftovers still had some very compelling characters & great performances, & many scenes that, taken in isolation, are the purest kino. but only in context. it's contradictory, it's an enigma. it's stupid, it's beautiful. what's the big deal
youtube.com/watch?v=5HgdHzoWqgc

Because morons don’t understand he’s just book of Job, despite being smacked in the face with the book of Job over and over

While S3 is certainly not as good as the other two it had the best potential definitely. The ideas of Nora going to the other world and Kevin's father being crazy about some inexistant deluge were pretty cool in my opinion.
I still wish we could've seen what's on the other side though. Could've been even more KINO than International Assassin
youtube.com/watch?v=5HgdHzoWqgc

What's the overall arc or point of this show? I watched seasons 1 and 2 twice each and really enjoyed them both times but it seems kind of muddled a whole. I think it's excellent in terms of acting and direction but I'm on the fence about it as a piece of writing.

>I still wish we could've seen what's on the other side though
sounds like you need to Let The Mystery Be, friend.

So what you’re saying is you’re of the intellectual capacity necessary to appreciate leftovers and use the term “kino” unironically, often as a suffix.

>he actually thinks there was another side

Attached: 1503142415935.gif (257x200, 1.24M)

The show literally tells you that the dogs went nuts after witnessing people disappear. Like, how retarded do you have to be to not get that? Dogs went crazy, dog hunter was was also bat shit insane.

>Okay
>Okay what?
>I want to free him
>Why?
>Because it's my turn
>youtube.com/watch?v=-pxRXP3w-sQ
pure kinography

You literally have no arguments about the plot contrivances in the show do you? You just turned your brain off and was taken in by le epic existential drama. Fucking retard kek.

Watchmen looks like legit garbage though.
TICK TOCK

Looks like Leftovers but capeshit

that addresses nothing in .

The issue is it was just "thing happened, ISN'T THAT WEIRD??? okay forget about it because it isn't important. Here's a scene where matt talks about book of Job."

Someone tell me the plot to the leftovers.

the issues with leftovers is the characters weren't actually compelling. They just had a large number of "look at me extremely-overreacting" scenes that were just the result of drama-convenient plot-drops, then an instrumental version of "where is my mind" starts playing and that's it. Every aspect of the setup and scene was secondary to the extremely forced reaction to all of that.

faggot

Nonsense, Matt wasn't Job at all. God spoke to Job after all, mainly to tell him to shut the fuck up but Matt was hardly anybody special. He wasn't picked on. He didn't even suffer the worst in the show, and he actively went around being an asshole to people. Calling Matt Job is just so lazy, and if Matt saw himself as such, that just spoke of the character's own arrogance even more.

Like a synopsis? 2% of the world's population vanish into thin air and the show deals with the emotional aftermath, like how to move on from something unexplainable and what extremes people will turn to in order to find peace or to cope

shit happens and people react to it. the end.

lindelof clearly wanted it to be ambiguous, and the fact you staunchly believe it was one way or another is just more evidence of how badly the writing failed.

>its a bad things happen to matt but matt keeps his faith episode
>WOW THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH JOB AT ALL WOW

he even fucking directly states that Job is his favorite book in the bible

Whats happening is you might have actually read the book of Job, where the most lindelof has ever seen is the southpark episode where cartman buys the themepark.

we need more justin theroux kino

That scene almost made me teary eyed. Reminded me of Kaiji when he saves that motherfucker in Espoir.

you need to be mentally impaired to think that.

>and the show deals with the emotional aftermath
except it doesn't actually. The characters spend most of the show just bouncing between plot devices, deus ex pinball.

Nah I'm high IQ as fuck and very right wing and I agree with him

you need to be mentally impaired to think leftovers is good at all.

Yeah that isn’t what I remember seeing but whatever. Why don’t you give us a couple examples of what you would consider an intelligent well written shows that effectively use metaphors to explore complex concepts

>high IQ as fuck
>very right wing
pick one

>high IQ
>uses "as fuck" as a qualifier
also pick one.

i can't argue w that. speaking for myself alone, it helps to not think of the Leftovers as a "thinking man's show". it's not. it can be, there's endless fodder for speculation, but for me it's like the ultimate "feeling man's show". truly, so much of how you react to it depends on what you bring w you to it. for the record, i really enjoyed the show, even the exasperated "uuhhg" moments don't detract from the grinning like an idiot moments & the "why do i feel like i'm going to cry" moments...

this

These people literally turned their brain off and didn't actually think about the events that happen in the show.

this.
how come 2 and 3 get more acclaim tho?

the wire, star trek, the twilight zone, rectify

bonus points if you can tell which of these lindelof has aped hard his entire career

kek'd

are you genuinely retarded

so its a show for women and soimales

that explains the fanbase at least

the overuse of the same few sad violin tracks got a bit old especially in the first season where it was every other fucking scene.

I like how that was basically the "okay feel now" version of a laugh track.

Attached: silvio.jpg (369x225, 14K)

Fuck leftovers and fuck white people

White knighting isn't going to make you any less of an incel.

I don’t know why Star Trek is on your list. And I don’t really know how the wire deals with metaphors,

But Look. The Leftovers is written in such a way to allow open interpretation. A lot of people fill in the missing information with whatever they are struggling with or with their view of God/Spirituality. This is why a lot of people really felt a strong connection with this show and really got a lot of it because of how they interpreted parts of it. The Battlestar Gallactica remake did the same thing but it was more subtle. Some people really like these types of shows. It doesn’t make them stupid or the show less good.

This

>literally children in concentration camps on US soil
*crickets*
>crying white people with sudointellectualism and sad piano music
B'AWWWW THE FEELS HOLD ME BROS ;_; HOMEWARD BOUND...

Try harder next time

I wish they were concentration camps

have sex incel

>The Leftovers is written in such a way to allow open interpretation
False. They were trying for this, but there is clearly only ever one viable interpretation for any bit of """ambiguity""" once all factors are accounted. And the only viable interpretation is the show as a whole is its just damon lindelof jerking off for 28 hours.

Nigga, it literally happened because dogs witnessed their owners disappear. It's part of the world, that's what makes the world more genuine. Christ, you're stupid as fuck or someshit to struggle this much.

If you say so...So how much of the show did you watch?

>>literally children in concentration camps on US soil
>*crickets*
is that a euphamism for erections? Because that's literally my fetish. the idea the hotter kids will be divied up among the wealthy elite and trafficked around the world just makes me diamonds.

sex slavery is all spics are good for anyway

plebs.

all of it. not sure why you'd bother asking, as it won't change anything.

why would you reply with an exact copy of ? Is it because you can't actually formulate an argument beyond "repeating what I just said, except louder, with more expletives."

No one has any difficulty understanding what happened. The problem is it happened for no reason. Like was explicitly stated in .

So you watched 30+ hours of a show you hated and thought was garbage?

30 hours is nothing you absolute normie

there were 28 episodes, my dimwitted friend.

its funny how you can't even add properly.

But yea, the first two seasons were enjoyable on a hate-watch level and pedonegro shooting himself after poisoning kevin would've been just an utterly perfect ending to both their storylines. but no, we need hamfisted greek underworld allegory.

seasons 2 and 3 are literally god tier

If you have a cuckold disposition

Yea one of the best shows ever made.

Helped that the original author worked and wrote for the show as well.
Premise and execution are just unmatched. Peaks metaphorical storytelling without feeling hamfisted or hipsterish.
And Max Richter is the perfect choice. Plus, god tier acting. Especially Christopher Eccleston acts it out of the park. Even though Justin Theroux does one hell of a job too. I wonder how many acting coaches he got for this, or maybe he is that good. But this is the guy writing Zoolander for god's sake.

This+The Wire+Deadwood are forever my holy trinity of god tier US television.

>This+The Wire+Deadwood are forever my holy trinity of god tier US television.
The Sopranos absolutely RAPES those shows. Leftovers shouldn't even be in the conversation.

To be fair there were parts that I didn’t like that I felt were ham fisted. But I thought there were some really great parts. I guess I just had an easier time not getting hung up on the bad parts. But instead I focused on the good parts that I really enjoyed. I don’t think anyone thought the show was flawless but the people who liked it just ignored those parts. Like I hated how they just conveniently wrote away the niglet. And I felt that the destruction of the Guilty Remanent was very cartoony.

If they are actually "concentration camps", you are morally obligated to save those children by any means necessary.

And Northern Exposure absolutely RAPES the Sopranos (both written by Chase though), what's your point? Favorite show shouldn't be best written

Part of life is dealing with not having the answers to the biggest questions.

my pet theory is that the garveys were descendants of the cavewoman in the season 2 premiere

Best show ever made (after Twin Peaks of course)

Especially when talking about death. The book the show is written on was written to be a way to explore grief.

if I love leftovers should I watch that twin peaks, been on my watchlist a while now

Not really, watch Lost instead

>And Northern Exposure absolutely RAPES the Sopranos
That's a lie though.

this. 3rd especially.

One of the best shows ever made. Period.
Season 2 is amazing in how it changed the direction.

Nah, season 1 was top comfy kino. Season 2 just seemed like propaganda dedicating so much screentime to the blacks.

>hardly anything gets answered/confirmed.
Because that's not the point and literally the reason why intellectuals rate this show so highly.

Instead of giving you another sci-fi pseudo "what happened" nonsense story, the show solely focuses on how people would deal with a stuation like that, instead of the reason. This is further elevated by not ever knowing whether she's lying at the end of season 3. And again, the point here is: it doesn't matter.

she was lying

>The Sopranos absolutely RAPES those shows.
Lol no. The Sopranos is a gritty soap opera for 40yo fat dudes who idolize the movies from their childhood.

Yea. As another user said, that the writer wrote the seasons was a big part in making it feel fresh.

Please stop posting. We get it, you hate black people.

When Chase became the main creator (since season 5) he's pretty much tested all the good ideas that later were intoduced is Sopranos. So its debatable

Virtue signalling isn't going to get you laid incel. Cramming my screen with blacks is an attack on my culture.

I don't lurk Yea Forums much, are all threads like this? Holy shit you guys are obsessed with politics

I honestly didn’t realize she was lying. That makes the season finale so much better. Thanks Annon.

If you're not viewing all media through a political lense you are a brainlet with your head in the sand.

It was worse when the show was airing
>season 2 starts
>black character appears
>"REEEEE"

The issue is fiction isn’t life. For with fiction there is always that hard stop once you realize this is just some asshole jerking off.

The trick, in fiction, is to create stories where people don’t hit that “this is just some asshole jerking off” point. Where the internal narratives work without there being some faggot jerking off.

That's a valid response though. Maybe you should stop mindlessly eating up what they serve you and think about the motivations they had for BLACKing a white show.

Xd

I didn't get the whole dead/dream space Kevin kept going to, it seemed to serve absolutely no purpose in the end. Can someone explain me?

It served absolutely no purpose beyond forcing drama.

The point isn't the mysteries though. It's how these characters react to something that is completely outside of their grasp on reality. Explain why the "ambiguous" events happened wouldn't add anything to the story.

That’s just a nice way of saying “it’s nothing but forced drama.”

why didn't people like season 2? was it because it was thinly veiled anti-immigration propaganda?

It's a fictional story of course the drama is forced. Did you shout bullshit when Cinderella lost her glass slipper too?

Mostly because jarden and the Garveys didn’t add anything of note or value.

I get that user. I just mean about what happened to the people/creatures that disappeared if people are watching for that and not how others would deal with it.

Word. I always hated everyone who complained about not having the mystery solved. It is inconsequential.

Everybody loved Season 2 except on Yea Forums because contrarians

It's a good sleep-aid that's for sure.

See .

All you’re doing is making excuses for poor writing.

All you're doing is exposing yourself as a brainlet

And the big issue with the show is it kept begging that question by acting like it can keep dropping smaller “inexplicable” but “””ambiguously””” “connected” elements whenever the drama starts lagging.

>S1
Great
>S2
Good
>S3
Meh/Disappointing

It's okay if you have nothing else to watch and need some drama with a dash of mystery and intrigue. It's not that great, but good for passing the time.

It’s kinda hard/impossible to assert intellectual superiority in the same breath as “turn your brain off.”

You closurefags need to be hanged

>tease closure the entire run
>nevermind lmao it as about the characters all along!

Season 1 is hard to watch, it starts really really slow and only the last 2 episodes would be consider great
Season 2 is a masterpiece, everything is great
Season 3 is good but because they had to rush the story for the cancellation you see how great it could be

S2 is like S4/5 of LOST

>he even fucking directly states that Job is his favorite book in the bible

Yes, which is incorrect. Job was specifically chosen to be fucked up by Satan because he was such a faithful believer. Matt's own arrogance is his assumption that God must be paying attention to him or testing him specifically like Job. Of course Job is his favorite book, he seems himself just as favoured by God as Job because he thinks his faith is so strong and any negative consequences of his life must be because God has ordained that he be tested. The simple truth is he's not anything special. His suffering is no different to anybody else's. His sister lost her entire family. This is the same guy that was so jealous of his sister when she was born he prayed to get that attention back, this is why "God" affected him so much on that boat.

Just because he thinks he's Job doesn't make it so, it's just another example of the failure of Matt's faith and another example of his own hubris. Matt = Job = pleb analysis buddy.

This will sound stupid as hell but literally life.to explain the unexplainable is pointless

Its still the story of a man who thinks his faith in god will justify all hardships he faces in his life, thus becomes the writer's whipping boy, thus everything that happens to him is entirely predictable.

there was also a very specific reason I mentioned that southpark episode. Care to take a guess at it?

Do you need to know where fairy God mothers come from in order to appreciate Cinderella? Just like real life no one knows what happens when we die. People have theories but no one is sure yet most people are able to function in their day to day life without knowing. If their was a scene in the show where a bunch of scientists sat down and wrote out some equations which explained why everyone disappeared would that make you "intellectually" satisfied?

you're right, that was stupid as hell

What the fuck what makes Leftovers memorable is the characters. Kevin garevy's story in season 1 and 2 is one of the best in television.

all kevin garvey does is get bounced around by plot devices set up to bounce him around. he has no agency, motivation, or development. He just does things because the episode needs a dramatic scene set to either where is my mind or that violin track.

hell, during the first season they give him a never-shown alternate personality in order to force him into pre-heated dramatic situations that he, himself would never get near otherwise.

its magic, they don't gotta 'splain shit. furthermore cindrella doesn't tease broader explanations constantly or introduce evil fairy godmothers or hint that the prince had fairy godfathers or any such shit.

Kevin's whole charcter is that his family is wrecked and he feels responsible. Nora is his replacement yet he still wants to die which is why is cry for life when he sings his song is so powerful because he acknowledges he wants to live

that's nice, but still stands. He never makes any actual attempts to get his family back or to fix things, he just accepts or reacts to whatever (niggerchink baby) comes along.

also he didn't want to die, alt-kevin wanted to die, which is what forces kevin-prime into literally every dramatic situation.
