Why was this so disappointing?

female power fantasy

>expecting a phoned in Pixar sequel to ever be good

Toy Story 3 was an exception but Toy story 2 was terrible.

Also fuck you Cars 2 was kino.

Aside from a few instances of horrible product placement, I thought it was better than the original. It was legitimately a great idea and they took full advantage of it. Funny as fuck and surprisingly strong character motivation/development. I looked up reviews after watching it and was shocked to see such a mixed reception.

It was a pretty lame setting and reeked of corporate influence.
Also Vannellope was a cunt to Ralph despite his completely sound reasons for discouraging Vannellope from playing in a dangerous game where she could permadie.

Yeah it's kind of tone deaf that they mock Ralph's concern as overreaction when she wants to live in what seems to be a gta/saints row type game.

>Why was this so disappointing?

Because it was about the internet instead of video games.

It didn't have much to do with video games at all. It's basically the emoji movie but slightly better

he didn't really wreck it.

What?
Go and rewatch the first movie. The difference in the quality is enormous.

They tried hard to take a very simple story with very simple characters and apply "depth" to them, and in turn just transformed them into unlikable people who really had no reason for you to care about them.

Ralph went from "Guy who just wants to be a hero for once" to "needy loser/beta orbiter" and Vanellope went from "little girl who wants to prove she's a racer so she'll no longer be bullied" to "girl who goes and does exactly what Ralph was criticized for doing in the last movie but gets applauded for doing it."

>Ralph went from "Guy who just wants to be a hero for once" to "needy loser/beta orbiter"
Doesn't this seem like a natural progression of the character though? He's someone who never had a friend in his life, so when he feels like he's about to lose the one friend he's ever had he naturally panics and wants to make sure she stays.

product placement the movie

Except that at the end of the first movie, he's friends with Felix (was even his best man at his wedding), looks after the gameless characters, and has finally opened up to the rest of the Bad Guys, showing that he's made progress towards becoming a more mature character. And, they just discarded all of that to make him work in this second movie.

WAHHHH MOMMY THIS CHILDREN'S MOVIE WASN'T AS GOOD AS I WANTED IT TO BE AS A 3X YEAR OLD MAN CHILDREN'S MOVIES NEED TO APPEAL TO ME AS WELL

Reminder that a hardcore feminist (Pamela Ribon) wrote Ralph 2.
>In November 2014, Pamela Ribon found a Barbie book from 2010 titled I Can be a Computer Engineer. She decried elements of the book where Barbie appeared to be reliant on male colleagues.

>Fast forward to 2018, and shes given the reins to the Wreck it Ralph sequel.
>She hates old school Disney Princesses because they are problematic
>Decides to voice the princess who started it all Snow White, and makes her talk/sing like a retarded air head in both the film, and trailer out of spite.
No wonder this film is a mess.

I feel like the message contrasts with the message of the first film

>It didn't have much to do with video games at all
It's not like the first movie spent much time on the setting outside of the establishment in the first act.
Most of the movie is just break it bill in candy land.

Personally, I didn’t like the direction they took Ralph as a character. The feminist who took control of the film turned him into a bumbling dependent man child whereas before he was just a maligned, lonely man with nothing to lose looking to finally make a change for himself. It felt like a completely different character.

>Declares herself the first Madam President of Sugar Rush in the first film.
>Quits her job, and walks out on everyone as soon as she starts getting board of her job, and her responsibilities
>Openly accepts that she really is just a princess, and even sings a princess song
>Jumps from one racer game to another in order to find fulfillment.
>Wonder Womans voice tells her she should stop thinking of others, and should just follow her heart and do what ever she wants
What did Disney mean by this?

Re: 120421366
cringe, im not even gonna give you a (you)

>with nothing to lose
Part of his character was realizing he did have something to lose, he was needed, and a lot of his problems were just because of his attitude, which is what they were trying to tell him in the support group.

pixar doesn't know what the fuck they're doing anymore. incredibles 2 had like a 10 year development cycle and it was also a piece of shit.

>1st movie
>guy wants to break out of his routine, everyone yells at him for trying
>2nd movie
>girls wants to break out of her routine, everyone yells at whoever doesn't support her

Apparently nu-Disney was so sure they were going to win the Best Animated Picture Oscar, that they printed, and distributed to stores display signs for "Ralph Breaks the Internet" that boast WINNER OF THE ACADEMY AWARD FOR BEST ANIMATED FILM". And the stores put them out because the employees are all foreigners and can't read or give a shit.

Oh nu-Disney.

We all know Mirai should have won.

souless cash grab and marketing for Disney products

Between them losing the Best Animated Oscar to Spiderverse and now losing Spider-Man to Sony, this all seems like poetic justice.
