James was the first one to create the videogame reviewer persona, and the angry reviewer in general too. Even if you don't like his stuff, his role in unironically shaping the internet culture to this day is unquestionable.
That said, I used to find his old videos funny and they helped me in learning English. His main problem is that he still often tries to constantly recreate the original mood, while it would have been totally fine if he evolved the show in a more nuanced way, regardless of the episode. The best ones are those in which he doesn't focus on a game but on broader themes like the Nintendo Power one or Tiger games. In these he's much closer to what he really is and he actually tells a lot of interesting trivia.
And consider that he's more into movies than games, actually.

Of course it's bullshit. His music went nowhere, his involvement with Cinemassacre was never a full time thing (he build sets from time ot time) and he has his family to feed to he stopped dreaming about becomming a musician and does construction work.

What killed the movie was him cramming everything into it he ever wanted to see on the big screen and thinking this would have been his one chance to do it. So many scenes were out of place and meanigless.

Overall it IS a mixed bag, actually quite a it more mixed than I realized. But I still think there's life in the old boy yet. With better game selection and someone involved with the production who is passionate about the game I think we'd get more hits than misses.

Plan 9 is a bad movie but its highly entertaining and rewatchable. Can't say the same about the AVGN movie.

Kieran was in here last week and I did ask him the skinny on why Kyle got axed before it was deleted. Apparently Kyle lives upstate and has his own business (contractor I think) and couldn't find time to continue doing AVGN. Even from the way he answered the question it sounded like they just didn't want to pay him. And with the extra travel cost and hassle it wasn't worth it to Kyle anymore.
Especially when the fatsos work for free. I assume Psychostik is also doing this for free.

Mike's Twitch streams have actually been pretty kino lately. He's fun to watch and is starting to involve the audience more. Also, he has embraced the Elmo and Mineycrafta memes.

Almost every youtuber falls for the “thiswill last forever” trap. Even AVGN did, and only survived because he got bought out by some rich kid. Funnily, leafyishere didn’t fall for that shit, he saved all his youtube bucks and invested it, and now he’s retired at age 20.

What makes it even sadder is that he was one of the firsts to ever do game reviews on the internet, he had his own website before YouTube where he would upload the videos (all the way back to 1999 iirc). Its crazy that he basically nuked his presence on the internet. Shame too, his videos weren't bad and he seems like a nice guy.

Leafy is 24, but you should check out Scot the Woz. Hes one of my favorite youtubers of all time and just 22, around my age. The kid is probably loaded; every new vid gets at 500 k views and comes out once a week. He also goes to college so has comfy career to fall back on
