SpongeBob is basically Ren and Stimpy with less drawings per episode, less gross out humor (at least in the first few seasons) and without the psychological horror. The humor is otherwise nearly identical.

Cow & Chicken was only on TV because of Ren and Stimpy but their similarities are mostly superficial. The style of gross out humor was different, Spongebob has lots of jokes that are just Ren and Stimpy but watered down.

I haven't seen Regular Show, but, as retarded as the fans are, the worst episode of Rick & Morty is orders of magnitude better than the best episode of Cow & Chicken.

C&C actually had some pretty strong direction and good drawings, I was kind of surprised when I revisited it, but later found out that Dave Feiss was a friend of John K. and actually worked on the R&S pilot.

The show wasn't that great, but the devil was usually good for a laugh.

The difference is that Spongebob is sincere and the comedy comes from that. In ren and stimpy its like a twelve year old screaming in your face while shooting out boogers and picking off scabs so blood is everywhere too.
So when Spongebob does what is essentially the same concept as a Ren and Stimpy episode, especially after you factor in that spongebobs art isnt embarrasingly bad, you get a tv show thats actually good.
