In the movie it's cuz he was a very small man with a very large ego because he had never truly faced any consequences for any of his actions.
Irl he was a big fuckin dude with a mustache and the same temper as played by Joe Pesci, he was one of those psycho soldiers the late-stage italian mafia kept at the earning and legbreaking level.
He tried to rape Karen a time or two according to Henry Hill, but she was fucking Paulie and/or Jimmy (I forget the details) while Henry was in jail that first time anyways.

you know they'll remake it, they'll make a 4-part series based on the book and original movie, stretching maybe 4 hours of material into 16 somehow, ends up being this gargantuan mistake and Hollywood embezzlement write-off, then the movie made about that making of will win all the awards in 100 years but nobody will care because it'll be all about the sex lottery and oxygen rations.
but yeah I'd like to see it all now that like 99% of the people involved in the events are dead.
