Shill

It's a solid B minus show they clearly put a lot of effort into designing the world it takes place in. Only stinker of a plotline is the poor(formerly rich) girl falling for the rich fae, it's so fucking predictable and boring I can only hope there's a twist in the final episode. Even Cara whatsherface is pretty good in it, the show also looks a lot better than most shows which might be because it's original and they don't have to pay a big chunk in licencing.

I"m not warming up to it. It's like Discworld without the humor.

>He hasn't watched the BBC monster interracial sex scene with his mom yet

BLACKHORNED

It's better then I imagine. I thought it would be just some stale sociopolitical commentary, but it's actually intriguing.

Still have a few episodes left to fuck it up.

looks like nepostism is back on the menu

> no Adam Nagaitis as a qt pixie whore
oh fuck off

I think it's dumb how they made main character half-fae, like he needed to be a half-breen to sympathize with them. Made him way less interesting.

How much screentime does based Jared get in this?

Attached: 1560727157341.png (1280x574, 824K)

>dude refugees, but they're mythical creatures
Hard Pass

I haven't finished it. He's not in the focus, but he's still the main character. He's the Chancellor of the city and that seems like 3rd plotline in terms of importance.

I think his wife might be the main villain but I don't know yet.

Eh, probably not enough for me to endure the other garbage.
When will he stop starring in shit anyway? Is he really that desperate for money?

>hurrrrr i wonder why orlando bloom has those scars
>hurrrrrrrrrrrrrrr i wonder who is controlling the frankenbeastie
>hurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr i spent my whole life locked in my home but i'm super smart and can predict everyones actions decades in advance
Other than these minor quibbles it was pretty neat accurate
Very little, he's good in his scenes as usual though

Attached: carnivalrow.jpg (788x535, 31K)

I saw spoilers that he dies in the end. Is this true?

That was actually retarded
Once
Vignette leaves the indentured servitude contract
nothing That Imogen and the nigfaun does further the primary narrative at all, it is totally unconnected.

It reminds me of the episode of Archer where Mallory tried to write a sexy spy thriller and it just turned into Mandingo 2. One of the writers desperately wanted to put their interracial sex/cuck (depending on the gender/sexuality) fantasy into the show despite it not having any bearing on the narrative.

I suppose it could speak to background but the idea that interbreeding was taboo and tantamount to a crime was already well established without it.

Attached: 7ff.jpg (288x499, 77K)

He should, so he can go to a better place than Carnival Row.

Continued

I knew that thematically this show was gonna be cucked in extremis being all "Poor immigrants they din do nuffin, and these evil humans (Re: whites) are just harassing these innocent noble savages" so I was gonna pass.

but this glorious motherfucker was in it, and the thing about Jarred Harris he has a sixth sense for project selection. In 15 years every project he has been connected with has been consistently good or better (with the occasional masterwork such as Chernobyl and The Terror) so inspite of my revulsion to leftie propaganda I gave it a chance.

And it was good (lower end of the harris quality spectrum) but still better than 90% of the dross out there.

It's watchable. There is a lot of heavyhanded racemixing propaganda that does nothing to further the plot and I'm fairly certain that the fae folk are a cross how the LGBT community see themselves with some Irish Famime visuals to get empathy, but worldbuilding is neat.

She reminds me of someone, but can't put my finger on it...

Looks like the actress from Silent Hill, the cult leader.

Yeah she played lady Jessica in the Children of Dune miniseries

Attached: Lady_Jessica-Alice_Krige_(2003).jpg (339x281, 22K)

Did you know that she was originally supposed to be Daenerys?

I'm the user who watched episode 1 and then jumped to 8, and have now gone back and finished the whole season. It's strangely fascinating yet frustrating in how cool the worldbuilding is, and how underutilized they are with incredibly weak writing, stupid tropes, and really annoying political nonsense. Unlike some here, I'm not annoyed at the interracial relationship thing, but it's very told and not shown.

yeh
did she leave or she was fired?

Anyone else finding it hard not to go back and fap to the Cara sex scene? I can't stop doing it, i want to stop before I can't tired of it but I can't

Nigga he was in fucking Mortal Instruments, are you going to try claim that was good? His project selection is his weakest trait.

the dude who wrote the original script (forgot the name) also wrote Pacific Rim and Clash of the Titans. It seems his strength is worldbuilding and, if paired with an amazing director like Del Toro, his projects become fun kino. His weakness is characterization: he creates just okay/cliché characters. For a 1h30 film, it can be ignored, specially in a mecha film where the focus are the battle scenes, but for a TV show where you have to invest hours of your life, it's tiring.
He should've gotten a better co-writer that understands nuance and character complexity. If done badly, the refugee subject can be annoying and I'm speaking as leftist.

Based reasonable leftist

kek... exactly.
I can hear the director now...
Gimme a high and stark hue contrast of black hands on a lily white ass.
Ratings gold. yeah.

Agreed that it's a great idea that needs much, much stronger execution. Guggenheim, the showrunner for Carnival Row, has mostly worked on pretty cliched stuff (Eli Stone, Arrow), and he's just not a very good writer or story structure guy (the whole thing with the Haruspex stealing Philo's sperm...that was such a hilariously bad combination of stupid tropes, bad execution, weird emotional notes, and "let's ignore that our main character just got drugged and raped" it makes my head hurt just trying to describe it.)

Yeah, I know who the actress is. I was referring to the character.
Anyway I figured it out. My brain darkasher'd pic related with the Arroyo Elder from Fallout 2

>Mortal Instruments
really? I never watched it

I feel like they tried so hard to integrate the rich girl/faun plotline into the Philo/Vignette plotline, but it doesn't work. Additionally, it's not necessarily worse written than the Philo/Vignette stuff - the brother is incredibly badly written, and the girl is only well written in that they have a thematic point to make with it, so they actually paid some attention to it, instead of dropping it like the landlady plotline. The faun is actually one of the best characters, because he's not nearly as much of an obvious stereotype - but it was pretty much dropped in favor of sexytimes.

don't do, nigga
it's worse than capeshit and the plot is retarded.
it's so bad that might be good tho

not enough

Sadly, Harris wasn't able to transcend the absolute stinker of a script they handed him.

Is it a tv show or a movie?

harris is in the movie, but there's also a show
from what I've heard, the show is closer to the books, so if you're into shitty Harry Potter rip-offs, I recommend the show

>I feel like they tried so hard to integrate the rich girl/faun plotline into the Philo/Vignette plotline

Shit wasnt integrated at all
describe anyway (after Vignette leaves the indenture) what Imogen and Nigfauns subplot affected the central narrative of Vignette Phylo & the mystery of the Dark asher.

>The faun is actually one of the best characters,
I actually agree with you, that scene where the yuppy tried to be all "I'm down with the plight of your people" and he shuts him down with "the locals are being squeezed out of the labour market by cheap migrant labour, they are right to be pissed off" was legit Kino.

>the brother is incredibly badly written
Pretty much all the "rasicts" were written to be 2-dimensional moustache twirlers.

Chicks got wierd tits yo
in fairness, her "acting" has improved substantially, and her "Irish" accent was pretty spot on

>so if you're into shitty Harry Potter rip-offs
yeah I'm not a 14-year-old girl, I might be able to tolerate it for Based jared tho

I torrented this because I'm a filthy Easter European peasant with no money but all torrents seem to have episode 6 run with episode 5 video. How comes?

10 minutes...

Evil whitey keeping the kindly black man down...

Predictable as fuck.

fpbp

Kinda this. The premise itself almost exudes the potential to just be “let’s fight the man, the one dimensional oppresser, it’s really simple see we the good guys, they the bad guys”. I will give them kudos if they don’t go strictly for the noble savage trope and explain both sides rationally. I’m not Some Neet who wants it just flipped white industrialist good poor idealic tribals bad, but some nuance, economics, motives, ethics, etc.

I was thinking Philo would be the rich-now-poor-siblings brother and that was how it would tie up. The whole prophecy shit was crap foreshadowing cause the son's legitimacy was never put into doubt until it abruptly was. How the fuck is the audience expected to feel like the puzzle pieces are falling into place when you've fucking withheld half of them to dump on us on the second half of the penultimate episode? Shit was sloppy is what it was.

Show was nice enough, but did the really fucking stupid short-sighted mistake of naming the whole fucking show on what may very well be the least interesting aspect of it. Now, they've gotta keep the characters in this place for over half of every season cause *that's what it's called*, when exploring other places and different parts of the Burgue was way, way more interesting than what the dirty peasants were getting up to. I wanna see Puyan and the Pact, as well as other cities and places. But Carnival Row, cause they called it Carnival Row. Fucking dumbasses.

Color means fuck all over there. It's whether you've got horns, or wings, that matters. The rich black folks sneer at the upstart Faun same as every other rich folk.

Carnival.Row.S01.COMPLETE.1080p.WEB.H264-AMRAP[TGx]
I got mine from 1337x.to
Enjoy, fellow peasant

There was one line or something about how blacks had fled their homeland in the past and how they were discriminated then.

>Now, they've gotta keep the characters in this place for over half of every season cause *that's what it's called*,
Well also that Set was really detailed and therefore really fucking expensive so obviously they're gonna keep finding excuses to use it.

>The whole prophecy shit was crap foreshadowing
ehh Its more to the villans motive because she believes it (regardless of its veracity) which makes no fuckin sense anyway as she knows her son is not Jareds anyway

I kinda wanted to watch it because it seemed like a comfy procedural show about two wacky partners in a fantasy world, but apparently it's heavily serialized and about class struggle? Is that true? Cause i don't want to watch middle-school levels "deep" metaphors about racism a.k.a Bright

billy from hocus pocus?

What I like about it is that they actually bothered to mention that Blacks are from a different place. I always get annoyed when they just throw in random Black people into cast, without explanation of how did they come to be so distinct.

Yeah, and they all banded together to hate the fey folk coming in. The fey are *other* in far more ways than skin color will ever be. So *other* in fact that it serves well to highlight just how similar all humans are, despite skin color.

>Its more to the villains motive because she believes it
I'm fine with her believing it. I just hate how Jared's legitimacy was never once put into doubt, so it was never a question of asking yourself who the prophecy was about and how it ties into the killings. The secret of his father meanders about for the whole middle part until they hit you over the head with the answers that could only be guessed at with those same answers.

>watched 30 minutes of episode 1
>muh poor refugees
>muh oppressed minorities
>muh evil racist humans (mainly white and male)
>muh police bad
That's as far as I go, if I want to hear ORANGE MAN BAD I'll tune in to whatever leftist brainwashing television funny man is popular this season.

Attached: 1557044624979.jpg (234x250, 10K)

No, I agree that it wasn't integrated at all - but making Vignette the maid to the sister, and having people from Philo's case hiding in their house so he has to investigate was so contrived it really bothered me. Honestly, I'd think it would be much easier to integrate that plotline into the Jared Harris stuff, and more interesting, given the faun's political comments.

I didn't even think about how Philo is supposed to be the chosen one until now. Ugh, that whole plotline was so badly handled.

>integrate that plotline into the Jared Harris stuff
That's exactly where that plotline belonged. Politics mixed with a fey nouveau-riche is a perfect fit.

Wait til episode 5. The. It stwrts becoming w game of thrones rip off with liberal politics

So will there be another season?

damn I gotta watch this now

How else is he going to be a Jon snow ripoff unless he's half?

did she suck off Philo to get his semen?

or was it a handjob?

HIDE

A few tiny hints of Jared maybe not being the true son at the beginning was sorely needed. A scene with Piety and the opposition leader that leaves their past together unsaid would've been more than enough. Without it, she's just harping on about a prophecy that means nothing until the show explicitly tells us the answers.

She could've just asked, for fuck's sake. I'm sure he would've beaten it into a jar in another room, or something. Maybe not gladly, but he would've to get some answers. She didn't need to go all spooky creepy rapist on him.

Why the Fae aren't huge asshole? Write only watched Disney's shit?

FUCK FAIRY TALE THINGS

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 40K)

Honestly, I loathe Chosen One narratives, so I kinda wish they hadn't gone with that. Philo has enough problems as a character without "I am Chosen One, so I get handed stuff on a platter because Plot" making him insufferable.

she probably gets off on it

You understand nothing about sex magic.

I feel like this avoids the REAL reasons they included this scene.

1) Because it gives them more nudity for Teh Edge.

2) Because Guggenheim has weird hangups about women that consistently show up in his shows.

Can't even tell where or how he's gonna have all that power. Burghe sure as fuck isn't gonna have any of that nonsense, and his father damn well knew it. The show is focused on the Row so we can't have him building a powerbase outside of it seeing as we'll never get to really explore the outside in great detail thanks to the writers naming the show after its weakest part, thus forcing all subsequent seasons to hyper focus on it long after the show outgrows it(I personally think it did so round episode 6).

Only real way out of it is to call whatever faction/movement he ends up leading 'Carnival Row', but that's real clunky.

>2 episodes in
>interracial cuck porn and pro "refugee" rhetoric

That's a big yikes from me dawg.

I think the biggest problem is they're mixing British 19th-century politics and American 21st-century politics. I only watched the first two episodes and I can't understand if the Burgh is supported to be that world's version of London/British Empire or the US or Singapore.

Its very kino (9/10) but the plotline of the girl that is broke and about to lose her life in the upper class and "falls in love" to a nigger with no personality other than flashing money at everything ruined the show for me.

3/10 final score. Maybe ill rewatch it if they edit that plot out in a fanedit (mind you that the plot has no relevance other than orlando bloom's character was born there).
Literally shit tier propaganda

BUCKED

Attached: Carnival Row BUCKED.png (721x300, 307K)

Yeah, I'm afraid they're gonna have him leading a really lame "fae proletariat revolt", probably building off of the Faun Lives Matter/Antifae dudes who tried to kill Jared in the last episode (the self flagellators). Which is so stupid.

If you listen to the reviews, this mixing is how they think they've gotten away from "ripped from the headlines." Which just shows how far their heads are up their butts.

The answer is basically: yes, the Burgh is basically just any Western Imperial Colonialist power that the showrunners think is bad.

Where the white women at?

Attached: Carnival Row Agreus Astrayon.jpg (1371x2364, 433K)

>white people bad
>white countries bad
>people writing won't live in Gambia

Why do they attack whites but insist on living in white nations?

>Where the human women at?
At least be accurate.

So this is the power of delicate snowflakes?

Because they're lazy, massive hypocrites. I feel like you know this already.

What the fuck is The Pact supposed to be and what exactly is happening there?

Are they just killing all Fae for shits and giggles?

Sorry you'll have to put more effort into your propaganda if you want me to watch it.

'Token Evil Polity' as far as I can tell. I do find it rad that they use werewolves though, to the point of having created a transformation catalyst. Also digging their blimps and callous disregard for the lives of fey.

Do you leftists have any rebuttal besides namecalling?

For all the claims that the Burge is Just As Evil As The Pact, it really doesn't seem that way. The Burge hasn't comitted any atrocities on screen, and the Pact has ONLY committed atrocities.

>only I get to call people names!

Well she does look inbred

So you don't have an actual argument.

*PUCKED

those commie faggots never do. they literally parrot what they read on vice or twitter and never think about what they're putting in their brains.

>Burge is Just As Evil As The Pact
Don't think that's ever a thing in the show. Fey specifically run away to the Burgue cause they aren't as monstrous as the Pact. The latter is built up to be a seriously evil and monstrous government(at least for fey). The Burgue is shit for fey(and even then, they only start using the barbed wires and shoot-on-flight policies at the end, after a national crisis), but the Pact is infinitely worse, it would seem. The show does make a point about how fey are shit out of luck either way, it's just that the Pact is clearly the worse deal by a fair bit.

No, it is. If you listen to the "wise" characters in the flashback episode (#3), everyone's always like "Burge, Pact, what's the difference," and there's a general sense that no one believes the Burge has any good intentions.

Someone post the cara sex scene pls

>By the Dark Gods

Attached: Annotation 2019-09-02 015938.jpg (611x535, 14K)

Yeah, but that's during the war when both factions are using fae in almost the same ways and tearing the place up same as the other one. But, when the Pact gets free reign and goes full crazy-evil-monster on the fae, they all run away to the Burgue. Everyone's quick to point out that Fae have it rough in the Row, but no one, neither fae nor human, ever presents the Pact as anything close to an alternative.

I have to admit, I loled.

That's true, though it could be a function of the very limited world of the show (caused by the stupidity of choosing the cool sounding but incredibly useless setting Carnival Row)

Crazy evil sister is crazy. Also one of the weakest parts of the show. Littlefinger she is not, and her domino effect was in no way planned, or foreseen. I'll buy her being an canny opportunist, and it's fine if they leave her at that. I call bullshit on her being any kind of puppet master.

Exactly. We don't get to see Puyan or parts of the Pact cause 'Carnival Row', so we gotta stay in 'Carnival Row', cause that's the name of the show. Fucking dumbasses crippled themselves from the onset, and whatever storytelling they wanna do, or aspect they wanna explore, will always be hamstrung by that fucking title.

you're a hypocrite, that's the point dumbass

>commie faggots

What do you wanna bet that they'll make Carnival Row the headquarters of the new Fae government? :)

The pacing is bad but I like it.

I like that Cara attempted being Irish (as all faeries must be), even if it sounded crap.

>wanna bet
That's a certainty, and only the show getting canned will stop it happening. What else are they gonna do? Focus on something interesting that isn't Carnival Row, when Carnival Row is the whole point of the show? That'll be the day.

It does that thing with world building where it just throws out names and doesn't elaborate on them.
Which from one perspective is good, that's how normal people talk, you wouldn't explain the whole history of MacDonalds in a casual talk with your friends.
But it is also a bit annoying to hear about things that only get cursory explanations like,
>What the Pact actually is besides a Prussia/Russia analog.
>How big/where Tir Nah Noc is and what its former societal structure was.
>What the fey religion with all this magic is about.
>What the human religion that is beating you over the head with (not)christian imagery is about.
>Are the Puck from the same place as the Fairies? They have radically different cultures but bot seem to be from the fallen country with no further thought.

They answer some of these questions in the Amazon Prime X-Ray notes - I still need to go through and read all of those.

>le kaosh ish a ladda
the writing is getting lazier by the minute. It was never brilliant to begin with, but this was possibly the worst part, even worse than the token "white old money falls in love with black nouveau riche" storyline

>Are the Puck from the same place as the Fairies?
They seem to be from a place called Puyan. Or, at least it's a place predominantly populated by Pucks.

yepp

This is literally the first post if seen of this on Yea Forums

How is that?

cute cara makes everything at least watchable
that said, this fairy thing looks like hot shit

It’s about immigrants being treated like shit fleeing a war torn country for the very country that started a war there in the first place and /pol/ incels are seething because it’s about the US/UK

I thought the flying fairies were done well. Not convinced about the fauns - the horns down to the eyes are creative, but not super appealing.

>hey were lovecraft!
>haha just kidding no were not, heres some really on the fucking nose racism is bad messages.

I was really bummed that the Dark Asher wasn't a cool Cthulhu, but was just a meat puppet zombie. I want a Dark God!

>We're lovecraft
Where the fuck did you get that idea? The vague time period and with fantasy elements?

They’re so qt lads. Just let them in. Think of all the fae folk food trucks!

The tentacly monster thing, and "A Dark God Rises" at the end of the first episode.

>talk of a Dark God below us that drives people mad
>Cthulhu looking monster
Yeah how could anyone get any sort of lovecraftian feel from this show?

The dark god bit is misleading but tentacle face instantly being lovecraftian is some normie thinking.

Saw the first episode tonight, not impressed. The heavy handed left wing politics is really getting intolerable in media.

I thought the show was surprisingly pretty good. Sophie lucking into being an evil mastermind was pretty funny even if unintentionally. But the thing with Imogen and the neighbor /literally/ added absolutely nothing to the overall plot, unlike every single other plotline, and seemed to exist solely to have an awkwardly long interracial sex scene showing that you too can learn to love someone fundamentally different from you in just three days, or your money back. I'm not a seething retard though so I'll watch season 2. Bloom and Cara are both pretty good in the show after all.

>I am a cuckolded consumer who will watch any mediocre garbage that keeps my attention
Could have just said that instead of a faggy paragraph.

As if you’re not trying to look at some more fairy tiddies

Seething retard detected. Easier than I thought.

Ok cumbrian, enjoy the kiked garbage you have to wade through for the seconds per episode of bare tit.

This.

If the "Woe us poor ex-rich siblings" plot was cut completely out this would have been a great series. It only dragged the narration. Now Carnival Row is only good.

>muh jooz

Sophie - for some reason, I really don't like her much. I mean her face. But I kinda liked the complexity she brings in being a completely amoral politician, instead of more ridiculously 2D racists.

The sex scenes (and swearing, honestly) are so poorly done. They're not integrated into the plot or characters well, and really just waste time, except maybe the ep 3 flashback sex where it's actually a plot point about Philo realizing his heritage by watching Vignette's wings while they have sex. And the cursing is just so forced. It feels like they wrote it without, and then just told the actors to swear randomly. Watch the Wire, fucking dumbasses.

that's an ace pic choice, user.

Life must be miserable for you and on top of that all media is now "kiked up" so you REEEEEE at everything.

yeah it wasnt that bad, honestly could have been trimmed down heavily, removing imogens whole polt the dark fae plot (literlly istnt worth shit wished they did more.) Kinda wished they aslo expanded upon the war more, as it imo was the best part but I have some hope for season 2 being better since most of the basic pandering is out of the way.

Nah, I just dont watch much made these days, and obviously this is something worth missing since it's entirely mediocre on top of being obnoxiously political.

I wish it wasnt a hamfisted propaganda shitshow. Would be good if it was more subtle, but no media seems to be able to help itself.
