The bitrate is so low that it actually becomes noticeably worse. The video is ok if you're watching on a laptop or something. But the audio is the worst part about them. I watch torrented movies on a large tv with 5.1 audio. Yify just isnt an option for me.

I watch stuff on a 768p 32 inch LCD TV from more than a decade ago and even i can tell that the difference in quality is abysmal. It's like comparing a PNG image to a highly compressed JPEG.

Even if you have a YUGE TV, 10gb at most would be sufficient, anything above is just pure placebo autism. I have a 42" and I usually get files that are between 2 and 5gb and the quality is just fine.

The difference between a 1.8gb yify blu-ray movie and a regular +40gb blu-ray one, hell, even between a 1080p yify and a non-blu-ray 720p regular one, will be noticeable even on a smartphone the second you start playing them. Not to mention if we compare the two formats on a TV screen (no matter how cheap it is) - the quality drastically changes. Those who claim that there is barely any difference between the two are either fucking blind, or low-key retarded. You don't need a fancy ass home cinema equipment to see the difference between the yify and non-yify media; you could even watch a regular blu-ray movie on a decent pc monitor and still enjoy it almost as it is like on a TV. Of course, a good sound system is of a great importance if you want to fully enjoy and appreciate the movie, but it is not necessary. Also, it doesn't matter if it is a fully CGI'd capeshit movie or an art-house one - both kinds undergo a huge decline in quality if you choose to watch them in a 'yify format'.

Even on a shitty laptop you'd see the difference. Video that compressed looks like complete garbage when there's even just a moderate amount of motion in the picture. The compression works by aggressively optimizing parts of the video that remain static, but that comes at the expense of looking like ultra low detail jpeg dogshit when there's a lot of movement, etc. Even grabbing the 2.5gb version is an improvement, with diminishing returns starting at some point between 5-10gb depending on the movie.

I got the issue on both my PC and my laptop, so it was an issue with the program itself. Now that was like a year or two ago, so it's probably been patched by now, but I don't care enough to switch back and try it again when Deluge does the job.

To be fair the SPARKS release does look more grainy, but that's actual 35mm film grain, a detail that's lost in the shitty compressed YIFY rip.

Still if you have decent headphones, better audio does a lot as well. bass will generally speaking be much deeper and you'll hear some detail in noisy scenes.

It makes sense for corporations to keep an eye on how much something is pirated, including both torrenting and just streaming on some godforsaken website.

Public trackers don't have a good retention rate. You also won't get as good download speeds as private trackers. There are a few good private trackers that are easy to get in to and have pretty relax rules. You can use them as stepping stones to get into more "elite" ones if you wanted to. I'm in a not so strict one that only requires you to seed for a minimum of 3 days. But I like getting my ratio up.
You can find private trackers that have open sign ups. It took me a few tries before I found the one I like.

Whatever scene group you download from really depends on your priorities. If you want quality you obviously have to make space for it. If you just want to watch something and don't mind about the quality then YIFY shit is sometimes fine, unless the draw of the film itself is looking good.
