Even if this movie is good, its coming from a wrong place, and is ultimately and fundamental flawed at its core. What it is doing is use a an iconic comic book character as a place holder to tell a completely different origin story about a character that already did have one (killing joke). Now if you want to make an artfilm (king of comedy remake) or any film for that matter , suing the capeshit medium to smuggle in your ideas and concepts, seems both dishonest and weak.
Another thin that Todd Phillips doesn't get, because he hasn't read a comic book in his life, is that you cannot have the Joker without the Batman. This breaks what the character is and his reason for existing, instead he turned him into a sad incel that goes crazy. Yea Forums will loose their mind over this movie, but you know this to be true.
I'm trying to care, I promise you I'm trying so hard, but I don't.
Wyatt Barnes
oh no, hollywood is exploiting batman's clown-themed arch-enemy to make a quick buck, I sure hope this doesn't devalue this classic character
Andrew Price
Nobody cares about the capeshit. The utter fucking dreck of the comics should ONLY be used to germinate ideas for film.
Jace Evans
is it weird that the Batman's arch enemy is a clown? like you'd think it'd be a.... mongoose or something, mongoose themed villain
Brayden James
He has no official backstory and this looks better than any of his other ones anyways.

how dare you ,WB you suck, you ruined the joker for me, who dare you, you don't even get the character, and you gave it to a director how don't get it too, I'm the only one who can understand the joker, I'm an expert, I hate you guys
Well put. This is why critics will shit on it. But don't expect fa/tv/irgins to understand any of this. All they can think with their tiny brainlets is "hurrrrr it's le edgy funny man from my memes! /ourguy/ amirite". Then after it flops "it's da jooz! da jooz and the mouse and the SJWs are keeping our incel kino down" Truly the lowest IQ board.

if the shadow or the question or somebody else who doesn't look like an absolute furry faggot had gotten popular instead, maybe they could make serious movies about him without it being stupid as shit

They can only make a Joker origin movie. Anything else would have to involve batman and it be titled Batman:___

OP is a faggot that misses the point of this movie
Is the point to make an incel power fantasy and paint it as a villain? Why use the Joker then? Why not use your pic related?

Agreed they need to make the capeshit board people have been asking for get this cancer off of Yea Forums (and Yea Forums if they want)
Superhero movies are only as good as their villains so it's an interesting direction to go with focusing a movie entirely on the villain.
What would be especially cool is seeing how someone could then fit a hero into this Joker's universe. Usually Batman is portrayed as overpowered due to all his gadgetry, but in this sort of universe it wouldn't make sense and could seem more appropriate to go with the detective route.
>you cannot have the Joker without the Batman Joker and Batman are different archetypes. They can working by themselves as a comment on serious issues independently. You don't have a clue.
I think the most hilarious turmoil with this movie will be that ignited by triggered capeshit retards like you, not the usual lazy SJWs types.
Joker’s origin is whatever he remembers on any given day, she says as much in the story you referenced. Not only that, but DC has an established history of doing one off retoolings of popular characters and setting them in a parallel universe. The even reboot their primary canon every 8 to 10 weeks lately. If a decent filmmaker with decent actors want to make a decent movie using the IP, I’ll take that over 1000 Suicide Squads.

>Another thin that Todd Phillips doesn't get, because he hasn't read a comic book in his life, is that you cannot have the Joker without the Batman. Don't you know the pale man theory that says the Joker has lived for centuries, just like Vandal Savage and Ra's Al Ghul. He called him the "Pale Man". Penny-Two found images of him across history.

Killing Joke's origin was never intended to be definitive. Joker has had multiple origin stories. Joaquin Joker is just as valid.
Gabriel Hughes
How do retards not realize this movie is about a "Joker" and not THE joker? Bruce is still a kid in this film and this Joker is a middleaged man. He could be the inspiration for a new Joker to succeed him
Anthony Williams
Joker 2019 is a win-win - unsuspecting capeshit audience are gonna get kino inside a capeshit package and true film connoisseurs are gonna get a red-pilled movie.
>Another thin that Todd Phillips doesn't get, because he hasn't read a comic book in his life Is that supposed to be a bad thing? Did Nolan actually read comic books before directing the Dark Knight trilogy?

Its pretty obvious from the trailer that they are trying to make this into a character study movie with a joker coat of paint to attract the nerd crowd, no shit it isn't going to be faithful to the killing joke or whatever

Apart from some aesthetic liberties, Suicide Squad basically followed the comics. Dark Knight said fuck the cannon and did it’s own thing. Which is a better movie?

Imagine being Batman and basing your whole persona around becoming a humanoid bat, or at least pretending to, and then meeting a guy who actually is what you were pretending to be. I bet that rustled his jimmies pretty good.
We're not getting any manbat kino anytime soon, though. The world's not ready for that level of existential fuckery and body horror from capeshit. Hell, they can't even try clayface.
Even when they butchered his character , Nolan got the elemental dynamic right, "unstoppable force meets unmovable object", Joker saying "you complete me" etc. Wtf is this Joker about other than incel rage? The Joker is a sociopath beyond all bounds of human reason, and Nolan got that right as well, with Joker being a nihilist that leaves a trail of corpses behind him. This Joker does it out of revenge for a world that wronged him, but the real Joker doesn't need a reason, except to fuck with Batman.
Alexander Martinez
You’re right, those were no true Scotsmen.
Grayson Collins
>you cannot have the Joker without the Batman. This breaks what the character is and his reason for existing, someone only watched TDK

You're a fucking retard. Nobody cares about capeshit and nobody cares about the movie. The movie is just a fun tool to use because it upsets faggots
Sebastian Gonzalez
The Joker was a criminal called the Red Hood before batman in almost all origin stories, not an established dude calling himself the Joker.
The origins story isn't even real. The joker himself alludes that its all made up.
Samuel Sanders
Oh for sure batman was rustled as fuck. Meeting an actual bat man probably pushed him over the edge

>What it is doing is use a an iconic comic book character as a place holder to tell a completely different origin story about a character that already did have one So? The only way this bothers you is if you treat comic book movies like a sacred cow. I'm sure he's perfectly aware that it's not really an adaptation in any way. I don't think he cares any more than I do.
also for what it's worth, part of the point of killing joke is that you can't trust the origin story it provided.
Oliver Rodriguez

>Can't have the joker without batman I hope you don't mean literally. If Batman suddenly retired you think the Joker will call it quits and become a well adjusted member of society? Hell no, he still has shit to do
Gavin Gray
I mean, I get what you’re saying, but if a good filmmaker wants to tell their story and the studio wants an excuse to use the IP, isn’t that (assuming the movie is good) a win-win? The Joker himself is a character that’s larger than any one story or medium, and DC has a history of presenting one-off reimaginings of things. This is essentially the cinematic equivalent of a one shot. Nobody looks at the Azzarello Joker books or Arkham Asylum and freaks out because they’re not canon. I personally like this new “throw shit at the wall” format WB is going with. Batman has been fighting the Joker for 80 years and we’ve seen good versions of that story told in every medium at this point. If they want to try something new utilizing one of the best actors working in show business then fuck it, I’m onboard.
Brayden Fisher
That's what he did in the Dark Knight Returns book by Miller.
Asher Jones
That literally happened in one of the most influential Batman comics ever published. He didn’t quit, per se, but he went catatonic until Batman came out of retirement.
Isaiah Taylor
>a completely different origin story about a character that already did have one (killing joke)
That may have been true at some point, but over the last 40 or so years they’ve been painting Batman as Joker’s raison d’etre. He’s not a typical criminal out robbing banks that keeps getting foiled by Batman, his sole purpose in life is to challenge Batman. There’s a book that came out a few years back where Batman is inner-monologue-ing about how he’s trained to to read people’s emotional state by watching constrictions in their pupils or something stupid, and how he can see when someone’s lying or scared and shot like that, and what he finds most disturbing is that in the hundreds of times he’s looked Joker in the eye, the only emotion he can sense is love.
