1. Smartphones for everybody. Addictive for kids (and adults).
2. Internet is ubiquitous instead of used only by technical types/nerds. Internet is super centralized and generalized. Kids today can no longer find outlets and community forums that aren't the dozen or so big sites. Putting out your real name/identity is encouraged now. Everything you do on those big platforms is there forever, kids aren't able to make cringey mistakes and learn from them without it likely following them if it blows up.
3. Social media is ubiquitous and is expected of you by your peers and society. Can now quantify how much of a loser you are and how much more "liked" and "popular" everybody else is. Easy to cut contact/isolate people. Everybody puts out a fake more perfect version of their lives on their social media accounts and if you are a loser who is out of the loop/doesn't understand you compare your absolute garbage life with everybody else's apparently perfect and happy lives. Hard to learn empathy for others only looking from afar behind a screen. Easy to fall for the politics meme (in fact as a teenager encouraged to do so without actually knowing anything).
4. A lot of the people kids look up to and make their role models are fucking degenerate youtubers.
5. NuAge parenting. Either helicopter parents to the extreme or neglectful millennial parents too self absorbed in their own beauty product eshilling business or whatever etsy garbage to care.
6. Years and years of teaching sex ed earlier and earlier because kids having sex earlier and earlier because they were introduced to it earlier and earlier by their sex ed classes.
