I love Fury Road. It tries to be "feminist" but visually and tonally it's so unappealing to most women that it ends up completely missing the mark in that regard. It's still a very simple, entertaining film.

As for the film, I don't think Fury Road is actually feminist by any stretch you but by the time they get to the badass old motorcycle riding lesbians, you can't say it isn't trying to shoehorn in feminist characters and themes. It is, it's just that either by design or by incompetence, it's terrible as an actual movie for women. It's still a great film that shouldn't trigger anybody. Fury Road should be exhibit A in "if you don't like it, don't watch it" and there aren't many films i'd give that kind of pass to. I dont think it's either one. I think it's a film that showcases strong women realistically. No Mary Sues. Just hard women shaped by a hard world. If women are gonna be in an action movie, this is how it's done well.

I read a review in a newspaper where it got 5/5 and the review was rambling about feminism without even saying anything about the movie. I was already gonna use the magazine as kindling, but into the furnace it went.

I think the first scene was watsed. Max gets capture in like two seconds. Imagine if the movie started with a long chase where you think Max will BTFO everyone but ultimately gets captured. That would have been surprising.
