Junji Ito's art is too good to be adapted to anime, because all anime looks like shit and it'll inevitably be inferior. The art is one of the main attractions of his work, too. It's a similar situation as Berserk.

The Junji Ito collection that was released a couple years back was really based. It had pretty much all the good shoot stories/one-shots he did.

Yeah, pretty much lol. That's what we call Lovecraftian, Kafkaesque, blah blah blah. But nobody reads him for the stories. They read for the uniqueness and the art. The stories may very well be "bad" a lot of the time, but they are always unique. Like that one futon story where the guy hid under the futon because he thought demons were haunting him if he were to come out. But turns out he had a psychedelic mushroom growing in the futon the whole time causing the illusions and it ate him from the outside in. You just never really see stories like that.
