Good list. The new Dark Crystal series is surprisingly superior to the movie.

yeah. Its when you realize that no one cares about your opinion

>Blade Runner (best movie ever by far desu)
Absolutely embarrassing that so many of you think this. The dialog is some of the worst I've seen in a movie and Ford's acting is at its worst. The sequel has a lot of issues this board overlooks too but it's a more competent film than the original

Nothing wrong with that at all. Would question the importance of Penguins of Madagascar of course.

sometimes you want a movie with some meat to it. sometimes you can watch something that pretends to be deep and meaningful. the best movie watching moments can be very hard to deliberately create.

binge through everything published by criterion. the odds of hitting something that gives you a massive kinogasm is pretty good

Agree with this, based 69 poster. I stopped caring what other people thought a long time ago.

technically its not the best movie. i think the set design and lighting gives people this buzz that sends them to another world where their minds go to strange places. neo tokyo is just nerd heaven i think

Ford is the worst part of the movie. Blade Runner is great because of the replicants and the way it tells it story, its a perfect example of how to actually use a visual medium to tell a story. That and it has about the most immersive atmosphere of any movie. I thought the sequel had much worse dialogues and acting (Jared Leto instead of Rutger Hauer, ugh). Also, despite looking good the world feels dead compared to the first one, probably because they used only real sets which lets you do great stuff with the lighting

>no replies
Just gonna assume everyone thinks I'm patrician, hehe.

It's too ambitious and thoughtful for the likes of you. Stick to Shrek 2.

For me nostalgia is not just an age thing though. I genuinely feel that old movies were better. Modern movies have atrocious dialogue and are ugly to look at. Movies like the Godfather are simply not done anymore

Blade Runner is even greater when you read the book. They only took parts of it and made it into something better instead of the usual page by page copy we have nowadays

il rate ur list which one was it?

No other explanation for it. Freaking plebs.

Attached: Eureka.jpg (804x870, 147K)

the one with ace ventura

The one with Hot Fuzz.

Ace Ventura man is a LIAR and a DECEIVER.

I have that opinion too. Modern movies don't have any patience and they want to make you feel comfortable and in control, despite what's happening on screen.

Let me ASS you a question!

My favourite filims always "slip away" from me, I post and only then remember that I have different favourites. Off the top of my head:
Boogie Nights, PDL and Phantom Thread
A bunch of Russian movies you guys wouldn't know, 2 in particular (not being a snob, but most people here are unfamiliar with Russian cinema outside a few staples, which is an absolutely normal thing)
In the Loop
Christine (watched it recently and really liked it, which is why it probably jumps to mind)

I'll just do chronologically
The Goonies was my first movie I loved
Indiana Jones hasn't even been mentioned yet which is messed up so I'll throw it in there shoutout to Last Crusade, caused me to study Anthropology
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
I then hit a Asian Action phase
Drunken Master 2
Throne of Blood
Ikiru
The Matrix I feel like I spent my teenage years preparing for this mix of east and west
Then 00s FOTR
Yeah I know that The Dark Knight makes everyone want to throw up at this point but it was a special time almost 30th birthday and I watched IMAX, stoked crowd best movie experience of my life
Gladiator
Avengers Endgame fuck it, I don't really recall a better blockbuster since TDK

I wish I would be able to rate better movies and this list probably deserves mockery but these are my go to movies, I watch either new dramas, or old 80s or kung fu movies. My life is really difficult so I watch movies to have fun.

Offcourse. It´s the perfect movie. Not a single wasted shot (every shot has purpose or sets information, some times there are even several layers of information).
Heck, the compositing lines, the way it uses the air on the frame. Everything about this movie is great. Plus it has a great casting and memorable characters.

First of all, the narration. I find the way some stories are narrated is what separates good films from excelent films or even elevates stories that would be otherwise mediocre. Take Melinda and Melinda for example, both the dramatic story and the comedic story, while entertaining would be completly forgettable if the stories where presented separatly, yet by introducing the narrators in the mix and explicitly exposing the genres the movie becomes more. A similar principle would be appliable to Citizen Kane, Rashomon, Sunset Blvd, Stay, Mullholland drive, last year in marienbad, breathless, etc.
Now, why pick Sunset Blvd instead of any of the above, since some are clearly better movies and there are no few noir taking place between the 20´s and the 40´s in my list? I suppose there is no other reason for that other than how the movie reconciliates genres, narration, certain type of acting and how it gets metatextual about film making. In that regard i think i could have easily picked singing in the rain (among others) for the same reasons. I guess that particular movie´s point on the list is to be representative of a type of cinema i love.

im sorry i dont watch every half decent movie that came out in the last 10 years unless the hype is simply unreal or its playing in the nearest cinema. i saw engame and john wick 3 and loved them but im not gonna put them on my top 10 list of favorite movies ever just because i had fun watching them a few months ago?

its insane to not rate a movie on its ability to provide a good experience when watching it. when you finish watching a true masterpiece for atleast the first time it should be almost like having had a spiritual experience. to give someone this experience requires a ton of craftmanship and a fair amount of luck.

i put on my list movies that would give me decent reactions even after countless rewatches and me knowing the entire movie by heart

Aye, Ran and Kagemusha were marvelous works of art.

1. 35
2. im not a fucking child

Why Back to the Future, is it due to nostalgia of some kind or just because it embodies the 90s cheese almost perfectly and is a sort of a staple film of that time? I've seen it recently and it's a good movie, but I really don't see why a lot of people love it so much.

Its a bit of nostalgia and its also a great movie. Its even better if you watch the trilogy and you see how carefully woven the three movies are to each other.

Honestly considering putting Mid90s on there too, that really had a big impact on me

I wouldn't call it great, but it's certainly a really good upbeat movie that just puts you in a great mood after you've finished it. Too many 80s stuff in it for me to fully like it, like the highschool streotypes and stuff, not a big fan of those when done in such a mundane way. 2 I was even less of a fan since it doesn't feel needed at all and is like 1, only worse in every regard. 3 is actually a bit underrated considering it's regarded as the worst of the trilogy, but is miles ahead of 2 and does some interesting things with the change of setting and shit compared to 1.

I found Superbad to be absolutely awful, why do you like it and consider it one of your favorites?

I don't know why I like that movie so much to be honest lol. Like I think it's great but it's still not even close to the best movie ever and it has a ton of flaws. Still I just find it really comfy and it's interesting that its George Clooney's first film he directed, it's cool to see what he could do on his first try. Looking at my list again I'd actually probably take it off and add Apolcaypse Now though lmao
