Snyder shoots movie. WB does a 180 on everything because people just want their movies to be like marvels. WB effectively fires Snyder after everything is filmed and brings Whedon on board to direct new scenes and trim the movie to two hours at max while reshooting most of that run time. End result is marvel fans still don’t like the movie, and fans of the previous movies don’t like it because it has obviously been hacked apart. Info comes to light about Snyder’s cut of the movie having been fully filmed and edited, minus cgi and soundtrack. Fans obviously want to see his cut of the movie. Pure PR spin. Yes, Snyder's daughter killed herself, but Snyder wanted to finish his film. Warner Bros. basically fired him and used the daughter's suicide to create the "Snyder left on his own to be with his family" bullshit.

The film was already finished filming at that point though, there were just a couple reshoots left to do which he handed off to Whedon to be with his family. As soon as he was gone WB decided to make the reshoots much more extensive and reshot half the movie.

It absolutely is the DC equivalent of an MCU movie - light, insincere, self-aware, and kind of ugly. The only MCU films made on Disney's watch that are even occasionally visually striking are Gunn's and Waititi's films, but I hate those for their irreverent tone and manipulative schmaltz.

The reason Snyder is able to get movies is because he is one of the few recognizable unique technical auteurs. The industry always gives money to directors who excel at having a style of their movies that no one else can replicate. It's why Michael Bay is given so many projects. No one can do what Bay does so well. Same with Snyder. Even Shyamalan can get work just for being unique and recognizable to his peers. When you make a style that is poorly copied / emulated by other forgettable hack filmmakers, you've cemented your career no matter what.

Starting back in MoS, we're given a Superman story that updates the underlying immigrant story component of his character. His outfit is no longer just Kryptonian fabric, it's actual ceremonial garb. Simply by putting it on, he's actively choosing to stand forth and act as a sort of cultural/goodwill ambassador, as his own father says, act as "a bridge between two peoples." Zod, on the other hand, has no interest in assimilation, tolerance, or compromise. Superman represents the best of all possible immigrants - the one who adopts our way of life while honoring his heritage, bringing forth the positive while leaving the negative behind. Zod represents what we fear - the radical seeking to impose his culture upon us. In essence, Zod is the spirit of fanaticism and fundamentalism. To him, Kryptonian science and culture is his religion. He is essentially a stand-in for radical Islam or extremism in all its forms.

Now look at how the colonel in MoS changes his attitude concerning Superman. When they first begin their strike on Smallville, he tells his men to open fire on all tartets, but after seeing Superman in action, after being saved by him, he makes the distinction: "This man is not our enemy." This is echoed in BvS when Bruce witnesses Clark facing down Doomsday and comes to see him as not only a man, but also a hero.

In BvS, the allegory expands and clarifies as follows:

Clark :anonymous/invisible "alien"
Superman: visible alien
Bruce Wayne: the native-born American
Lex: The corporate elite/M-I Complex
Doomsday: The "resurrected" corpse of the extremist, brought to life by the blood of the corporate elite. In short: ISIS.

In the Ultimate Cut, we get a scene of Lex(the corporate elite) getting caught literally red-handed standing waist-deep in a substance that looks suspiciously like crude oil making a deal with a "devil" composed of that same substance. I have every reason to believe that in the Snyder Cut of Justice League, the Codex would have had a subtly different role, that Bruce would fear it falling into Steppenwolf's(the "Devil's") hands, as it could be used to mass-produce an army of Kryptonian slaves for the New Gods, a replacement for their Parademons.

In Snyder´s version Steppenwolf is decapitated by WW as he is about to fall on a Boom Tube to escape.

Cyborg´s father dies and leaves a message for him thaat got retooled as Lois´s moonologue at the end in the relesed version.

As far as we know Darkseid is only confirmed to appear in 3 scenes, the beginning which got retooled as a flashback and swapped Darkseid with Steppnwolf in the released version, A vision Cyborg has and lastly across a boom tube where he looks at the league face to face at the end.

There are lots of stuff out there thats misinformation with guesses and half facts, or just simply plausible but not confirmed stuff.

Generally Cyborg got cut hard on the story department, not only we see his story before the accident, theres some point at which Cyborg has this trippy shit where he travels through the different plaes the mothere box has been through the ages and something apparently tries to trip him with visions of his dead family(including his father who has died by this point)

Apparently everything points that Flash makes a really cool thing at the end where Cyborg calls his name when he is going to explode or something related to the mothr box and then flash has to run so fucking fast that time warps or something not completely undiclosed yet happens, but its in the trailers where you can see going across the final setpiece at full speed.

Apparently theres a whole superman fight scene thats not in the film where he fights "unhinged" whatever that means is a mistery.

Another little thing is that the military are shooting the heroes whil they fight superman so when flash is going fast and fighting superman the bullets are travelling between them and they are evading them.

The death of Cyborg´s father was reported by the actor off the record to the editor of a magazone who later reported it and explained the dialogue swap they did, this lines with what the actor said that they changed things to make the movie less darker.

The original movie was going to be a two-parter, but Snyder and Terrio were stopped because the producers felt the movie would be too creepy and scary, and they didn't want any of that after the critics bashed BvS for being too dark and morose.

So the new movie was rewritten to be a solo and be more optimistic. This is when Steppenwolf gained the new, less creepy design. Still Snyder was trying to do his own thing despite it all.
Then Snyder is out, Whedon is in, and the movie is changed further to cut out most of what Snyder did and add all of Whedon's scenes meant to make the plot simpler and the movie more lighter.

The original version of the idea, after BvS´reaction scared warner, Justice league 1 became stand alone and retooled while being shot since they where filming 1 month after BvS premiered (we didnt even see the ultimate cut by then), apparently what got aborted waas mainly all elements that tied directly with the future plot and Darkseid became more of a tease instead of the big bad of the whole 2 part "epic", maybe, just maybe this is the point where someone got th idea of replacing himwith Steppenwolf in the ancient battle.

Also probably rewrote and excised Anti-life from the plot at this moment.

What they shot was a stand alone version and supposedly less darker concept than the original "part 1" script but later got even more buthchered with the reshoots that changed the whol tone and story even more.
