yes. and there are several catholic journals with a positive impression on it, if that makes you feel any better. at worst there's one episode with some shocking sexual imagery, but the character depicted ultimately suffers terribly for it. overall the show portrays the struggle of faith in a very honest way, not to mention glorifies the aesthetics of the church.

I don't think the show itself ever judges him for his beliefs. By the end he gains a little bit of perspective, but it's not like he changes his view fundamentally in any way. "changed his opinion on homosexuals" is pretty vague. He didn't say "actually I think homosexuality is totally fine and good now". You can think homosexuality is a deviance and also realize that people don't get to pick what demons they struggle against.
