Rolfe is just comfy in general. He knows his stuff and genuinely interested in the topics he digs in. A bonefide geek from the 80s.

>soothing voice
>eloquent
>short and sweet quick reviews, comfier and less sleepiness-inducing than HITB and Rental Reviews (ugh)
>not overly criticizing bad/not so good movies because he's le-angry-movie-geek
>explains why he doesn't like certain popular movies in a respectful manner

>explain my opinion to me

These. James genuine love of what he is talking about is what sells it.

>comfy tier

>we're never getting proper Monster Madness again
>thought the years without clips were downgrades, but at least still enjoyable
>it's all just Rental Reviews now
Worst timeline

anyone ever listen to his commentary of day of the dead? or white zombie with mike? top tier comfort
>cinemassacre is dead and the fatties did it

Props to James ending the series when he felt he should (an early finish is better than one that takes too long), but it does seem that his reasons for doing so were a bit premature. I remember him mentioning that he struggled with the genre post 2010 bc he really failed to see how it had progressed at all since the 80s, and that horror as a genre was stagnating. That was literally right before we had the Conjuring movies, Insidious movies, and "mod horror" movies like the VVitch and Hereditary appear. So I could almost see him do another couple series on contemporary horror from the last 7-8 years or so.

Do the fat guys ever get better at least? I tried watching one of the first RRs when it first started, remembered really not enjoying it, and I never picked it up again. Is it as bad as they say?

James waa actually doing something he enjoys.

I don't hate them. Its decent background noise and the video store itself is top tier comfy. Looking at them can be a bit much, though. If it is an episode where they talk about a film James loves, its a pretty good watch. If its a movie where James doesn't like or is indifferent to, its a struggle to get through because he'll be totally disengaged and he is the only real reason to watch them.

>new rental fuckery
>airplane
>"hey I love airplane might be at least a bit entertaining I guess"
>prepared to stomach fatso posse
>nope, it's some literal whos instead
>"ah yeah, yeah hah, yes, huh, yes hehe, yeah hmm"
>close the tab, alt-f4, de-installed netscape navigator, low-level format disk, bring entire computer to nearest recycling center and toss it on the counter
fuck this gay shit, his new stuff in uncomfortably annoying to watch holy shit

He implied that there is a Monster Madness this year in a recent video. He said that he had a difficulty finding time to watch 31 movies.

I always thought the clips with still images were re-edited to avoid copystrikes on youtube.

Thanks for the heads up. Didn't even bother with last weeks episode. I've gotten used to the fatties (and by that I mean Kieran) but this is a real waste of an episode.

IT'S CINEMASSACRE

The last few seasons did that. You can still find the originals with the clips intact on YouTube. In retrospect it sucks that James did that because that whole copyright in reviews thing has kind of blown over. No one gets in trouble for using clips in their reviews anymore because it clearly falls under fair use. Actually, we can thank the Nostalgia Critic for really pushing this issue. Maybe the only decent thing he has ever done.

that 'band' is horrible and 100% reddit

Does anyone here have any ACTUAL criticisms of the screen wave guys other than just “muh fat” and “they’re not James”?

The same reason Hammer horror is comfy, lowish budget and cheesy but made with love.

Bootsy got replaced with randos who are all so fat they fill up the whole room. Why are theu ALL fats anyway?

I think their physical appearance is a legitimate criticism. The early episodes were worse but now that Tony got a haircut and wiped off a layer of grease and Silverman is in it less, its an improvement. Aesthetics matter, user.

Justin interrupts too much, Tony is a bit of a prick. Having said that I actually like Rental Reviews.

it matters, watching a bunch of dirty fatsos makes you acutely aware of the time you are wasting and you cant relax.

These, also there is no retarded or cringy skits in monster madness
Just James explaining the films and usually without many spoilers

You think that's bad

It's a shame they're both gone. Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee had amazing film charisma. They did their jobs as professionals even if they hated the scripts. That's a work ethic we don't see anymore.

He made them out of passion before the clickbait views era

I cry every day.
