One of the (many) charms of the Mad Max saga is that, tonally (and for obvious budgetary and technical reasons) each new installment has a progression that it's idiosyncratic and distinguishes it from the others. The Road Warrior is like an aftermath of the first one, where things are slowly going down. In the second one, the dying civilization described in the first entry has finally disappeared. The new scenery and approach is post-apocalyptic and cements how things are gonna be from then on in the new ones. Fury Road is the ultimate version of the second and third one, and definitely amps up all the esthetical virtues of them, but I prefer the more restrained focus in The Road Warrior than the pure, amazing action extravaganza of the last one.

Fury Road is what The Road Warrior would have been if 2015's technology had been available back in 1981. As it stands The Road Warrior today just feels like an outdated version of Miller's true vision of Mad Max. But Yea Forums will never admit that.
