I don't know If "developed" is the right word, looking at how awful most modern comedies are, or the amount of bad jokes and memes people send themselves with social media.

I believe is most a matter of change of tastes and probably rhytm. Modern humor is much more faster, self-conscious, ironic, dark and sometimes random. Since the middle 90s, character in comedies have been progressively more mean, sociopathic and childish. Curb Your Enthusiasm is much more dark and cynical than Seinfeld, and with the Simpsons, you can see how they went from being and "imperfect normal american family" to the out-of-character dumb people of the later seasons.

Seinfeld feels old because their characters were not completely assholes, even if the seed was being planted as the show was coming to the end (late 90s).

First season legitimately sucks. Second season is a lot better. Third onward is when it becomes kino.
