What was the point of this character?
What was the point of this character?
Subversion and parody of black people
>nigger cook
Did you even watch the movie?
nigga you talkin about old black man
I hate niggers more than most but scatman was a pretty based character
magical black man trope
but he was an advanced shiner so we get some explanation about shining and remote viewing
He illustrated the theme that homosexuals are evil pedophiles.
In his room, there are posters of nude women. This was a deliberate choice to emphasize his heterosexuality. He is a safe adult for Danny to be around.
At the beginning, Jack is reading a Playgirl magazine and it is implied that he is molesting Danny.
Jack is a gay violent pedophile and Dick is a heterosexual protector of children.
So he could bring a working Snowcat to The Overlook and get an axe in the chest from Jack.
If he was so advanced why couldn't he spot Jack behind the pillar
baased
Several purposes. Explains the Shining to Danny and the audience, gives Jack someone to murder and provides Wendy and Danny with their means of escape.
Maybe I remember the film differently, but is the Jack molests Danny plot real or just a meme?
In another film, I'd suggest that you're reaching, Kubrick's attention to detail was legendary. There are no accidents or coincidences in his work. It would also line up with what's been said about his political views (though he tended to mostly keep those to himself).
Fuckin love this place.
Real. Put your phone away and pay attention to the fucking movie next time.
its heavily implied to be the case
To introduce the concept of the Shine (and, in extent, paranormal activity in the hotel) as a real thing. It's confusing to me that people debate if there's any real paranormal activity in the Shining when it's just flat out stated in the scenes with Danny and Dick.
The entities in the Overlook don't care about good souls or bad souls. They'll consume and defeat anyone. Dick could never be the good guy he wanted to be.
The Shining has a lot of elements you can take multiple ways. It is undeniable Jack physically abused Danny, and we get some fucked up vibes sometimes in their interactions.
now how about the moon landing?
I read the book and watched the film a while back, and remember a big deal about Jack drunkenly breaking Dannys arm, I just never remembered any diddling going on
This, Dick is a based black man and has kino taste in posters.
>ignores the part about putting his phone down
There’s no graphic pizza scene it’s just implied.
...
This is actually debatable. Kubrick himself said that he doesn't plan set design as autistically as people think.
Cant find the interview now tho
How do I achieve this level of comfy?
Get a job and your own place you can decorate
I have both of those things. Just need the right posters.
Pretty sure you can order lewd posters online. Go wild man.
Is there a high res of this poster anywhere?
I fucking love an afro
>putting his phone down
what's the significance of this?
Sorry, it's just been years since I've last seen it
He aint got that hair, but he got that shine. Felt a little disrespect, so he got that Nine. Put 2 and 2 together, with a little bad weather, gonna be his whole family on the funeral line.
Fair enough.
Dunno about the bed one, but the one above his tv is 'Supernatural Dream'. Maybe it's the same model, Azizi Johari.
Based, thanks, user
I mean this would be compelling evidence if it wasn't a contemporaneous issue released at the time of filming. Almost certainly just a random magazine that the set dressers bought that week for the lobby set and one that Jack specifically picked up to read cus he's Jack and saw "Playgirl" and got excited.
reminder
his interview with like the set designer was interesting I suppose
the demonic forces in the hotel were too great for his shining powers
you mean working in a comfy hotel in the rockies and going on paid vacations to miami every year when it closes for the winter?
idk man it's harder to live a comfier life
IIRC in the book his character’s powers aren’t naturally great but he’s so much older than Danny he has learned to control them. I think he mentions his grandmother being very naturally gifted. but the movie and book are fairly different so I don’t know why I’m writing this all out
>I'm sorry to differ from you user, but YOU are the janitor... you've always been the janitor
>I should know user... I've always shitposted here
But Jack was attracted to the blonde ghost in the bathroom until she turned into ugo-undead.
>Guys, I have good news! I've been reading up on the subject of pedophilia.
It turns out that it isn't about sex after all. It's about power. So, the assailant doesn't go after the one he finds most attractive this guy. He goes after the weakest he can find.
He could still be attracted to women and molest his son.
is that why his imaginary friend is in the back of his throat and goes into his stomach and it's who he talks to before brushing his teeth
stephen king invented the Magic Negro
I think he was more important in the book
A nigger cook
nothing kubrick did was random, it as all autistically planned. look into the effort he put into all his movies, but this one in particular. he mapped out the entire hotel, terrorized shelley duval to make her acting authentic, and alot more. he wouldnt "randomly" grab the magazine of the month.
wtf i love based black men now
Based
fuckin based
in behind the scenes footage u can see him figure out shots on the day.
t. Rob Ager
it's actually something of a gripe of mine with the movie that it takes every opportunity to imply jack did every bad possibility
>There are no accidents or coincidences in his work
X - Doubt
test
The woman in the picture was Dick when he was younger.
Meme that autists push
He accidentally broke Danny's arm
He has one of the best scenes in the movie though. When he explains the shining to Danny.
>he mapped out the entire hotel,
He had too, the reused different halls from different angles to make the hotel seem huge, the lodge they filmed in was rather small.
>terrorized shelley duval to make her acting authentic
That's not that abnormal, certainly not the only director to do that
always gotta have a magical negro
Yet they were bested by a novice shiner and his whore mother? OK sure...
