Why do Shin Godzilla's eyes change?

I noticed that when using his atomic breath Shin's eyes change.

I'm just curious to see if anybody knows if it was done on purpose, has any Reasoning behind it, or anything like that

Nowhere online seems to address it but then again I suck at looking sorry stuff online

Here's a clip of his atomic breath for reference

Any theories are welcome

THEY ARE PROTECTIVE FILMS AGAINST THE BLINDING LIGHT EMITTED FROM HIS OWN PLASMA RAY.

Sharks turn their eyes like that to protect them during an attack.

This movie looks weird as fuck.

Protecting the eyes like everyone else has said. Sharks have the same when they attack prey.

He also puts those protective covers up before he gets bombed

Totally of topic tho, how was this movie this fucking good?

Nigger vision

Anno

Made by Japs and not Jews

he likes to look cool with sunglasses

lots of talent and passion

how does he keep making waifu after waifu?

Shin could have really used another six months in the tank, some of the shots look great and some are just embarrassing, like that last one.

what looks so bad about it?

to protect his(?) eyes from the heat

she was a mom, therefore a lady

Frequently the movement will become very snappy or lack the same weight displayed in the rest of the film, like it was handed off to some lowly animator in the chain and not fixed on time for release. They'll also select camera angles that forgo any sense of scale and make the limited effects stand out much more. The rendering quality also varies greatly throughout the film, some of it looks like PS3 graphics, like the boats being pushed down the river, or when Godzilla slumps forward to go to sleep after blowing up the city.

It's not completely unexpected since asian CGI is almost always far behind what the west can accomplish, but there are still good looking moments in the film so I feel they could have aimed for a more even level of quality.

I was asking about the last shot

lol, it has the budget of 15 million dollar, what the fuck did you expect?
godzilla 2014 from hollywood cost 10 times this

>but muh cheap cgi >:(
opinion discarded

not sure if it's been officially stated but it's likely protective film or dialation to protect against the light emitted. otherwise dialation from excitement or a similar reaction.

>dialation from excitement
I'm happy he is happy :)

>implying godzilla didn't always look like shit
It's either going to be fake or just be a guy wearing a suit.

by excitement i meant adrenaline. probably more terrified than happy :(

now that you mention, getting some nukes dropped on your back by titanium birds must be pretty damn terrifying

Nailed it.

It's called a "nictitating membrane". Sharks, birds, crocodilians and other animals have them. They essentially a semi-translucent eyelid that protects an animal's eyes while it attacks a prey animal.

I hate the shitty lowres sound effects that Anno puts in his films, they're really jarring.

i mean yeah, godzilla isn't really malicious for most of the movie. hungry and confused, more likely. he's pretty animialistic.

This version of Godzilla is weirder than any previous version was, so that fits.
