How do you convey this on film? She feels like a freak, so you want to draw lots of attention to her height, so it's as noticeable to the audience as it is to her, to see the world how it looks to her. You could cast a woman who's like 6'5", but that's not great. Better is to get a woman who's definitely tall, six inches taller than the average woman, but surround her with people shorter than average to highlight the difference. That way she looks clumsy and overlarge without being some Andrea the Giant Bitch freak. She needs to learn to overcome her hangups about her height in 90 minutes, and it's not just hard to sell the journey, but it's hard to set it up when there are guys in every class and walking down every hall who are taller than her. It's a story about a girl who feels like a freak, not a girl who literally is a freak. If it were a movie about accepting her weight and not height, and she were 50 pounds over the average, it wouldn't make much sense to have her run into fatter people everywhere she goes. Not really selling the story.
